    Today, while looking through the very useful rolls of microfilm loosely known as the Records of  Ante-Bellum Southern Plantations, I found a four page, closely written letter from Reverend John Cooke, to his brother James. It deals with James' marriage troubles. I will type out a copy, but I would like others to have my images of the original. Hi, I have another one that has me stumped. John Henry Dean (b. abt 1821) married Susanna Cox on 28 Dec 1846. I have his father as Joseph Dean and no mother. I am not sure if this is correct and it was given to me by word of mouth. Anyone know who the parents are of these 2? Thanks for the help. Randy

The 1860 census document shows a Jno F. Higgs - 21 years old. So, he was born about 1838/39. This really could be Joseph Frank Hardesty and in all likelyhood is and there was an error in the 1860 census document. I've seen this many times. I had placed the John F. Higss from the 1860 census as the son of Alexander and Eleanor because of his age. Now that I have looked at it more closely, I do believe he is really Joseph Frank Hadesty and have made that change. The 1860 census also shows a Joe Higgs, 12 years old. The problem I have with placing him as the son of Alexander Higgs and Mary Dean is that the census record shows him as a black male. I do not have anything on the Hardesty children other than a note for Mary Jane's death, 1832 Wahington DC. James R(obert) Hadesty Joseph F(rank) Hardesty Mary J(ane) Hardesty Richard T(homas) Hardesty Mary Ann Dean married Joseph Hardesty 16 Jan 1832. She then married Alexander Higgs 26 Jan 1847.
