If anyone had died between the writing of the will and the final recording, be it witness, admin., or person owed money, they should be noted as deceased. Thus, a will could be writen decades before it reaches final recording. Sometimes the Court appoints someone to handle the estate and make annual reports...esp if there are minor legatees, sometimes just a guardian. There is a good chance that if Blandina as witness had died between the writing of the will and the recording of the will, it would have been noted... of course, if you are working from a synopsis, that fact might not have been caught by the author. The missing inventory and settlement details would be scattered in the court minutes. M'ellen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. That really clears up a confusion. I had seen May 1696 listed as the death date of a Blandina Bozeman with a note that she had made her will 14 May 1696 with Thomas King as witness--a reversal of the facts. I knew Blandina Risdon Bozeman, wife of John, had made her will in 1724 and died in 1727 so couldn't figure out who this Blandina was. Now I know--the same Blandina witnessing the will of Thomas King. I wish people were more careful about what they accept from these family trees posted online and made some attempt to verify the info. I don't understand what you mean by "final settlement filing in 1695" and "the 1692 first filing." The 29 May 1692 date was when Ellinor wrote her will. Nothing would have been filed at that time. The 3 Jul 1695 date is when the executor and witnesses appeared in court and filed the will. It was not the final settlement of her estate. Beyond the will, I don't believe there are any additional probate records for her - at least I haven't found any in the Prerogative Court Records. So we don't have a record of when the inventory was taken or when the estate was settled. All we have is a 1692 will, including a reference to Blandina Bozman. That will was recorded verbatim in 1695. Blandina theoretically could have died between the writing of the will and the recording of the will. The will would be recorded as originally written in 1692. There would not be any notation if someone mentioned in the will were deceased. If so, it comes from the will records. Blandina Bozman left a will dated 30 Sep 1724, which was proved on 7 Apr 1727. Although it doesn't apply in this case, keep in mind that a person mentioned in a will would not necessarily still be alive when the will was proved. Ellinor Caine's will was proved on 3 July 1695, but it was written on 29 May 1692. Without the existence of the above will, you could only say with certainly that Blandina was alive on 29 May 1692. Unless, of course, there are other probate records that indicate she was still alive. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: brendamason5259 Surnames: Turpin, Parker Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.maryland.counties.somerset/847/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My focus is on Leah Parker, her husband William Turpin of Maryland, and their children, particularly SACKER PARKER TURPIN who lived in Augusta, Richmond County, GA in the early 1800s and who died in September 1839. I am trying to see how this Turpin line fits in with my line who were based in Virginia and who moved to Augusta beginning in 1804. Does anyone have documentation for Leah Parker and William Turpin as well as any further information on migration, children, death/burial, etc.? The Parker family history on Ancestry states that Leah and William were married, but gives no evidence and the email associated with the file is dead. Here is what I have pieced together. William Turpin and Leah Parker may have been married around 1789 since son Sacker Parker Turpin's was born around 1790 according to his tombstone. This assumes he is the oldest child. Sacker Turpin resided in Wilkes County, GA and drew land in the 1821 Land Lottery. He is shown as a stockholder in the Jackson Street Ice Company of Augusta in December, 1837. According to SP Turpin's will, William and Leah had two other children, Henry and Ann. Both were living in September 1839, probably in Georgia since there is no reference in the will to another state/county of residence. Ann is referred to by her married name MADDOX in the will. Both Henry and Ann have children, referenced in the will, but these children are not named. Sacker was married to Ann Tilly but despised her. In his will, signed on the day of his death, he left Ann 25 cents and stated she had no further claim on his estate. The burial records at Magnolia Cemetery list him as unmarried. He names no children of his own with Ann. An interesting story that arises from the will revolves around his slave, Harriett. Harriett is left to his close friend, Frederick Martin, who is basically instructed to watch over Harriett and give her as much freedom as Georgia law will allow. If it is not possible to provide a reasonable sort of freedom in Georgia, Martin is to get Harriett to another state, if she is willing. SP also leaves Harriet $150. Thanks to all for your time. I look forward to hearing your thoughts! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
