    1. [MDSOMERS] Re-Launch of DelMarVa Surnames Project and New County Query/Surname Registries
    2. Shari Handley via
    3. Hi all, I'm very happy to announce the re-launch of the DelMarVa Surnames Project. The DSP was a great tool for DelMarVa researchers looking to connect with others interested in the same surnames in this area. It has been several years since the site was active, and in that time, I'm certain many things have changed - we've lost some old friends, and gained new ones researching in the area, research focus and email addresses have changed. In light of this, I've decided to start fresh. So, if you previously had registered your DelMarVa surnames, I invite you to RE-register them so that we're sure we have your current names and contact info. If you've NEVER registered your DelMarVa surnames, I invite you to do so now. THE DELMARVA SURNAMES PROJECT: http://www.tyaskin.com/handley/dsp/index.htm ALSO . Since I've now finally figured out how to set up the forms and databases and everything on my new (5 years ago) server, I'm also relieved to be able to once again offer QUERIES and SURNAME REGISTRY for the 3 Lower Shore counties I coordinate for The USGenWeb Project. Here are the links for those: WICOMICO - http://www.mdgenweb.org/wicomico/queries/ WORCESTER - http://www.mdgenweb.org/worcester/queries/ SOMERSET - http://www.mdgenweb.org/somerset/queries/ Best Regards, Shari Handley Everything is always okay in the end, if it's not, then it's not the end.

    1. [MDSOMERS] Parents of Samuel Betts b. 1730
    2. John Welsh
    3. Hi List, I am researching my Betts line and have a brick wall at Samuel Betts born 1720-1730.  Some have his birth in Ireland and some have Sussex Co., DE.  Of course in 1730 that was Somerset Co., MD I believe.  In any event he and several children were in Broad Creek Hd. by 1776.  He and some of his children left DE for GA about 1795.  Samuel died in Hancock Co., GA about 1809 and he left a will naming his children. I am looking for any information on Samuel that would lead to his birth place or his parents.  I will share what information I have with anyone who is interested. Thanks for your time. John

    2. Carol, Have you tried "Whealton, Wheelton" from the Eastern Shore Counties? There were lots of Whealtons in Accomack Co. Va, Many Somerset families had ties in Accomack. You might check the Miles Files on the Ghotes website as well. We are dedicated to researching and rebuilding more than 500 local families of the Southern Maryland region (Southern Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Southern Prince George's and St. Mary's counties only). We do some of our research in surrounding counties looking for further information on our Southern Maryland families. There may have been some cases/incidents where some of the members of our lines/families may have moved/lived in these surrounding areas. We have numerous members who are researching the families that particularly related or connect with them and then we put all of our information together.
