No, not really and I don't know much about Holden. I've been there several times... I have a photo of my grandfather and his brother taken there in 1936, visiting their mothers grave. I was led to understand that another of my grandfathers brothers was the caretaker for a number of years (Norman Hemmons), but I don't know if that's really true. And I know my Peters line, who gave their name to Peters Corners a few miles south of Holden, had at least one wedding there in the 1870's. That's about it. Dave I had recalled your post to the Queen Annes Co. list about this church last year and was curious if you had had any success in obtaining the answers? I have a FOGWELL buried there who is a ggggrand uncle and have been curious about the church as well. I had spoken to a member of the current church after their service awhile back and found that they had little info themselves. sincerely jim long > -----Original Message----- > From: Dave & Libby Nelson [mailto:muskoka@ix.netcom.com] > Sent: Wednesday, February 14, 2001 2:27 PM > To: MDQUEENA-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [MDQUEENA] Holden Chapel > >
Hello I've been trying to resolve this question for a while without success and thought someone on this list might have a idea or two for solving it. I'm trying to learn about a road in Queen Annes County that happens to be the same as one of my Surnames. FOGWELL. I'm curious as to when it was made, how it was named FOGWELL and who the FOGWELL might have been. My FOGWELLS started out near Sudlersville in the 1760's. In Queen Annes County,Md. District 6 is a FOGWELL Road. This road runs north-north west from Rt 304 (Ruthsburg Rd )to Hope Road. The road is east of German Branch, shown on page 21 of the ADC map of Queen Annes County. This road was not shown on the 1877 atlas. (At that time German Branch was called Jarmans Branch.) I've written to the Queen Annes Co. roads office and the Queen Annes Co. Historical Society with no success. Any info or ideas would be greatly appreciated. jim long Jim Long Lutherville, Md jmlong@mail.bcpl.net

Jim, I think I'd call those two places. I've found letters don't always get the desired attention. You might also call JOK Walsh, the president of the Caroline co Historical Society, and see if he has any suggestions. And, if all else fails, get on your pony and ride over to the county road office and/or the QA Historical Society. You might also try the MD Historical Society. I've had a couple of dealings with them, and they seem to be fairly helpful: which is good since I live in PHX, AZ. Bob, How or when the flags began, I really don't know. They are simply decorative. We have recently begun using them on on our patio. I plan to change the flags with the season or for a special holiday. We have one for Christmas, and just now I have put on one with a bird's nest and eggs for spring. Just something pretty. We have a project in mind, whereupon, I will make a flag of the Wallace Tartan and use it sometimes. I am looking for one with a gray kitty cat, as that is the color of our "Smokey". Offhand, I would say a decorator began using them just for something different. Betty > While on a trip to Norfolk and up to Annapolis and QA co, and Dover, DE. I saw several colorful flags at peoples' houses-sometimes flowers, sometimes just designs. When I tried to find the history of these flags or pennants, no one could tell me how or when they originated. Does anyone know? Thanks. I believe they started in Richmond Va. about 15-18 years ago. I noticed them there in my roaming around the south on business. There are several streets in the historic area of Richmond where virtually every residence displays one. I heard that one woman started it to draw attention to her restored house, then she made some for neighbours that requested them and now it's spread throughout the south. We have several and always have one on display at the front door and one on the back deck. The significance? They seem to be pure whimsey. We displayed an early US flag replica for the millenium and revived it this 4th of July, after 9/11 it was right in style. The one in back is seasonal. Santa, Butterflies, Pumpkins etc Bob, in Atlanta

Hi, I received this from another mailing list & thought it might be helpful Red Men Association: http://www.phoenixmasonry.org/masonicmuseum/fraternalism/red_men.htm Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)
I am trying to identify a George W. Graves who married a Sarah Love in Baltimore 11 Dec 1849. I find them in the Baltimore 1870 census with the following info: George W. age 52 yrs. Sarah age 46 yrs William W. age 25 yrs Samuel age 18 yrs Walter A. age 13 yrs Mary E. age 10 yrs Frances age 5 yrs. It would appear that George W. Graves was married before as William W. would have been born abt. 1845. Any help is most appreciated. Thank you. Sharon s.goetz2@verizon.net
Hi everyone, While going through some things of my mothers my father had packed away. I came across some old negatives and went and had them developed. They look like they are from the late 30's early 40's.I could be wrong. Feel free to correct me.<VBG>I passed them around to relatives on Kent Island and nobody seems to know who they are. I know they were taken on the eastern shore somewhere. If you have a spare moment stop and take a look at them and maybe somebody out there can give a name to some of these people. I will be more then glad to email a copy to you or if you find a relative I can snail mail you a copy. I put them on 2 pages so it wouldn't take as long to load. You might get multiple copies of this as I am posting it on a few lists. Thanks so much Lynn Smith <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lynnsgen/photos.html">http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lynnsgen/photos.html</A> <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lynnsgen/photo1.html ">http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lynnsgen/photo1.html</A>
