The thread of the following items was about the clothes of the time. Since the people were from the upper shore I thought I'd send them. March 9, 1785 The Pennsylvania Gazette FOUR DOLLARS Reward. RAN AWAY from the subscriber, on the 15th instant, a Negroe Woman, called PHILLIS, about 30 years of age, near 5 feet high, well made, and very black. Had on when she went away, a striped blue and white English linsey jacket and Petticoat, and had a bundle of other cloathing, amongst which was a white cotton gown. She has many small lumps on her face, wants most of her upper teeth, and has always her jaws tied up. Whoever takes up and secures said woman, so that her master may get her again, shall have the above reward, and reasonable charges, if brought home, paid by JOHN DE CORSE. Chester-Town, Maryland, Feb. 28, 1785. July 16, 1767 The Pennsylvania Gazette THREE PISTOLES Reward. RUN away, from the subscriber, in the night of the 27th of June last, living in Queen Ann county, in Maryland, a convict servant man, named Thomas Lamprey, about 29 years of age, and about 5 feet 10 inches high, has a fair complexion, wears his own hair, if not taken off since he went away, which is of a fair colour, and took great pride in it; is a little pock marked, has a small scar under his left or right eye; had on, and took with him, a light coloured broadcloth coat, with a small velvet collar, a brown or snuff coloured jacket, which has been flowered in the fulling mill, dark striped linen trowsers, a new felt hat, Whoever takes up and secures said servant, so that his master may have him again, shall have the above reward of Three Pistoles, paid by me NATHAN FARROWS.
Hi list, Does anyone one have access to Narratives of Early Maryland, 1633-1684, ed. C. C. Hall (New York, 1910), p. 315. Would you please do a lookup for me in regard to "Marcus the Finn"? Thank you so very much! :) Happy hunting, Helen

Does anyone have any information on William Thompson s/o Dr. Samuel & Elizabeth Thompson? I am trying to find the parents of Capt. James H. Thompson of Kent Co., MD. James H. Thompson b. 19 Dec 1813, Piney Neck, Kent Co., MD. d. 21 Mar 1908 Chestertown, Kent Co., MD. married 23 Nov 1840, Kent Co., MD to Martha A. Ashley (1814-1892). According to the death cert. for James H. Thompson his father was William Thompson. I do find a William Thompson listed in the 1783 Tax Assessment Index for Kent Co. I also find William Thompson in the 1790 Kent County census showing 1 male age 16+ and 2 males under 16 and 2 females. Today I found an account book of James Hyland, Jr. Blacksmith of Kent county, which showed a receipt paid by William Thompson 11 Feb 1817. Another entry in this account book is for Temperance Thompson for 1826 thru Aug 29, 1828, referencing her son, James and also a ref: July 1827 to cash pd you by William in Baltimore $3.26. Another entry about James passage to Baltimore. Capt. James H. Thompson operated a Packet and then Steamboat line from Chestertown to Baltimore. At the time of his death he was survived by 4 sons: one son being Capt. Joseph W. Thompson, a prominent businessman of Philadelphia. When James Hyland, Jr. died in 1824 he left a wife and children. His wife, Rhoda remarried in 1833 to a James Collins. Rhoda Hyland Collins died in 1838 and a Chancery Record found in 1839 shows the court appointing James H. Thompson as guardian to the (2) minor daughters, Kesiah Hyland and Ann Marie Hyland. I have a letter written in 1901 stating that Capt. James H. Thompson was the grandson of the late James Hyland, Sr. of Kent County. Putting all this information together tells me it is possible that James Hyland, Sr. had a daughter, Temperance Hyland who married William Thompson and James H. Thompson was their son. This is only a guess, but it makes sense. Any help is appreciated. Thank you Sharon

Can anyone tell me what churches existed in Queen Annes, Caroline, and Kent cos MD, and Kent co DE between abt 1740 and 1850? I'm looking for information on my gg-grandfather Andrew Levi KNOTTS' parents and family, and the marriage of my g-grandfather, William KNOTTS, b 1805, QA co to Margaret M BARRATT. I would think that WM and Margaret would have been married in BARRATT's Chapel, as Margaret's grandfather, Col. William BARRATT, donated the land for the church. Andrew was b ca 1770, QA co. I'd like to know who was the minister/priest of these churches when they ceased to function, and what was done with their records. Thank you. Bob KNOTTS, PHX, AZ
Marmie, In case you begin to look for "Stevensville" on the map. This is the correct spelling - not Stephensville. I am not being sarcastic, but I remember when we moved from Florida to North Carolina I spoke to two ladies from "Tellersville". After searching for several hours so we could go there, I found Taylorsville. Had to wait and go another day. Good luck with your research. Betty
I will be visiting my son in Stephensville from 1- to 25 August. I've spent time in Kent Co. on previous trips. Could you please tell me the research sites in QA - libraries etc. The court house is a given. --- Original Message --- From: "Cynthia V. For those new to the roots web and those of you veterans I would like to say that there are many folks who subscribe that are willing to do what they can to help others in their research. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 485 prisoners of war on record from the state of my home state of Maryland and about 100 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. I also do the research for any prisoners from any state that were here. Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. Please do not concider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. Hi, I'm passing this on to Delaware & the Eastern Shore of Maryland mailing list, because there are so many people listed in this 1860 census record mentioned as having been born in DE & MD. I know there was a large inflex from DE & MD to Delaware Co., PA, in the 1880s because of industry -- my WEBBER Family being one of them. I was a little surprised to see it as early as 1860 or before. Don't just rely on the surname index -- there are some names missing from it -- go to the town, township, borough, etc. where your relative may have lived. The following was sent to me by Karen << Booboopies@aol.com >> Here ya go, Helen, 1860 Federal Census for Delaware County, PA or http://www.rootsweb.com/~cenfiles/pa/delaware/1860/ This should take you right to it. It's a list of files. In order to find someone, you'll need first to go to the Index folder near the bottom of the list. Unfortunately, the index files are given numbers rather than alphabetic names, so you have to fish around until you find the proper index file. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy to navigate. You can always save the files in your favorites and rename them (not the http:// designation, just the descriptive name on your system). Have fun! Karen Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)

Researching DeBAUGH family Jesse Lee DeBAUGH ... 1881 to 1953 his wife Nellie/Mary DeBaugh children Dlifton Lee DeBaugh daughters Florence, Lillian 1) am wanting to locate obit, death record for wife, Nellie Pitts DeBaugh, who I believe died in early 1930 in MD. As her spouse, Jess, was living on Kent Island when he died, I thought I'd backtrack from that position. Where would death and cemetary records be kept for 1930 MD? Are there any volunteers in Kent CO who can do lookups on obits, etc.? I have some death info on Jess and there was no mention of his wife, Nellie 2) Kent Island High School: Can anyone look up information in the old school annuals? or put me in touch with a library that has those volumes? Would be 1936 -- 1940 ...anyone named DeBaugh in that time period at the school. Clifton would have been there around 1924-1930. Thanks. Gayle H. Michigan Gayle
