    1. Re: Nottingham
    2. My best guess from looking at the Microsoft Streets computer map is that most of Marsham's Rest is in the Patuxent River Park, and the point of the park is His Lordship's Favor. I see Nottingham Road on this map. According to "Prince George's County, a pictorial history," by Alan Virta, p 39, Charles Town at Mount Calvert was established by law in the 1680's and was the only town in PG when it was organized in 1696. In 1706 and 1707 the General Assembly directed the establishment of six more towns in PG: Upper Marlboro, Nottingham, Queen Anne, Mill Town, Piscataway and Aire (or Broad Creek). The first four were on the Patuxent, the last two on the Potomac side. Only Mill Town failed to develop. On page 94 of this book is a map of the March of the British Army from Benedict to Bladensburg, which took them through Nottingham in 1814. The Battle of Bladensburg was a great embarrassment. On August 24, 1814, the British met an untrained and ill-prepared defensive force of about 6000 Maryland and DC militia. After a brief engagement they scattered except 500 regulars under Commodore Joshua Barney. The regulars fought valiantly but with no support and were forced to retreat. The flight left Washington unguarded and the British marched into the city and burned it.
