Just a little southeast of the Marsham's Rest tract is the tract of Gedling. The original Gedling is near Sherwood Forest and Nottingham in England. The Greenfield family hailed from there and remembered the poor of Gedling in a will. There is also a Gedling website. The Gedling tract was patented by Thomas Greenfield in 1679 when the land was in Calvert Co. The Greenfield family were prosperous weavers of Gedling, England. I wonder how many other settlers of the area came from Robin Hood country? Alice
