I have read many of your postings on Windsor's of Prince George County, Maryland. My sister is researching our line of Windsor's (and I have been helping her) but she has "hit a roadblock". We have traced our line back to our GGGrandfather, Lemuel H. Windsor, born 1832 (on gravestone in Congressional Cemetery) somewhere in Maryland (have not been able to locate his birth record). At this point, we are trying to find Lemuel's exact birthplace and his parents names. A family member told the story that Lemuel's father had built a house in Princess Anne, Somerset Co., MD; and that this house has a brick in it with the name "Windsor" on it. His father had supposedly brought this brick with him from England. We have not found anything to back this story up. We have talked with some of the people who research family records in Somerest Co. and they do not know anything about any such house or brick... Lemuel's Death Certificate (DC #217609) states that both of his parents were born in England. The story goes that Lemuel's father and his father's brother came the United States and first settled in Washington, DC. Though Lemuel was born in Maryland in 1832, he lived in DC (136 E Street, Southeast) at least beginning in his early married years as most of his children were born there. He and his wife, Catharine P., are both buried in the Congressional Cemetery in DC. They seemed to move back and forth between the Eastern Shore of Virginia and DC off and on during his entire lives. They retained their residence on E Street in DC though as Lemuel's obiturary states that he died there. I am not certain if all of the children were born in DC. Charles Hugh Windsor, Sr. (my Great Grandfather) and his twin brother may have been born on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. We are uncertain about this but that is what our Grandfather told us. However, all of their other children, even the youngest (Sarah M.) who was born after the twins was born in DC. Following is what information my sister has on Lemuel and Catharine's six children. They were born between 1855-1865: Children of Lemuel H. and Catharine P. Windsor 1. John Henry Windsor, b. May 26, 1855, in Washington, DC (resided in DC most of his life) 2. Laura Virginia Windsor, b. September 17, 1857 (married James T. Gray of Accomack Co., VA) 3. Robert James Windsor, b. August 4, 1860, in Washington, DC, resided in DC (and Silver Spring, MD) his entire life 4. Charles Hugh Windsor, Sr., b. April 24, 1863, twin, my GGrandfather, resided in Accomack Co., VA 5. William Windsor, b. April 24, 1863, twin, disappeared on a boat trip between DC and the Eastern Shore of VA 6. Sarah (aka Sally) M. Windsor, b.June 1865 in DC, married Charles H. Evans of Accomack County,VA, on April 28, 1882; Sarah is also buried in the Congressional Cemetery, DC, but not with her parents. We would greatly appreciate any information you may have about our line of Windsor's ... did Lemuel have any brothers and sisters or cousins, etc. Thank you, Betty (Phillips) Hart Granddaughter of Charles Hugh Windsor, Jr. (1891-1984) MailTo:bphart@intercom.net P.S.
