Hello Everyone, My name is Robert Berenger and I am researching the name Hooke or Hook and related families. What I know is as follows: Thomas Hooke who came to Maryland from Middlesex England in 1668 married a woman named Annaple about 1685 to 1690. An unusual name. Likey she was a Beale/Beall/Bell. I say this because several of her descendants were named Beale Hook. Also the name Annaple only appears 8 times in the world so far as I can find. Four of these known Annaples were Beale's/Bell's of Scotland. Anyway Thomas Hooke died in Prince George's Co. in 1696. His widow married John Wright who died in 1702. Then she disappeared for now. Thomas Hooke and his wife Annaple had only two sons. One named James Hooke the other name Thomas Hooke Jr. Thomas Hooke Jr. when he was grown moved to Anne Arundel Co. just south of what is known as Annapolis. But James Hooke leased land for life from John Bradford in 1714 in Prince George's Co. James Hooke along with other's built the Rock Creek Parish Church. It is thought that James Hooke's wife was some relation to John Maddin as in a lease for life for John Maddin in 1718 he names two women in this lease. One Elizabeth Hawkes, Likely Hawker. And the other women named was Margaret Hooke. James Hooke's wife was named Margaret Hooke. Many have though she was Margaret Thrasher. But this is not so. An interesting thing about John Maddins lease is that he was recovering land that James Hooke's stepfather(John Wright) had let laps because of his death. It is possible though not known that Annaple Hooke Wright may have married John Maddin. Or another possibility here is that James Hooke was helping his father in law reclaim his stepfather, John Wright's land. James and Margaret Hooke had the following known children: James Hooke Jr. who moved to Frederick Co. by 1740 m. a woman named Mary. John Hooke who also moved to Frederick Co. by 1740 m. Sarah Simpson Sarah Hooke who married Abraham Lakin Jr. Arrabella Hooke who married a John Giles Racheal Hooke who married Robert Owings Margaret Hooke who married Thomas Fee and Mary Hooke who very likely was the wife of Benjamin Thrasher. A Mary Beall was not Benjamin Thrasher's wife as reported by many. We have a lot of information on the descendants of all of James Hooke and his wife Margaret's children except for one Arrabella Hooke who married John Giles. She seems to have vanished after her marriage. If anyone is researching any of these families I would love to hear from you.
