I hope someone can help me. In some applications for DAR membership I recently found, my ancestor Clement Hill BROOKE and his wife Ann (Nancy) CARROLL supposedly were born in Surrattsville, Maryland. Nancy was born in 1794, but I do not have the year of Clement Hill Brooke's birth. However, searching the internet, I've discovered that the town of Surrattsville was not officially organized until during the Civil War years. Does anyone know what the previous name of this town was? Also, according to the same papers, both Clement Hill Brooke and his wife Ann Carroll Brooke were buried at St. Ignatius Catholic Church Cemetery, Silver Hill, Maryland. Again on the internet, I have been unable to locate a Silver Hill. It states this cemetery is in Oxon Hill. Is this correct? Does anyone know if St. Ignatius still exists, and if their records would be available to the public? Thanks. Ann Chandler in Oregon
