    3. I understand that the "Aunt Amelia Frahern" hasn't been traced. This is not my line, but I remember reading a comment about it concerning the Tolsons. Someone has probably thought of this, but I'll pass it on, anyway. My cousin's ancestors were sometimes read as "Frehern" when they were named "Treherne" pronounced "Tren". Norma

    3. Kenn.... Can't definitely link John Tolson Lowe to your Allen or John Wesley Lowe.... However know that John Tolson Lowe owned 16,000 acres in Florida (100 square miles) and it might have been in Nassua County, Fla... Don't have John Tolsons will but something maybe better.... I have the FTM CD#208 with the MD. Genealogical Soc. Bulletins 1-38. Suggest you all buy this CD as it contain 100's of pages old MD. records.. In Volume 20 #2 Spring 1979 there are about 3 pages on the Tolsons, Stonestreets and Lowes which follow as in a family lineage......... (1.)Francis Tolson (of Broad Creek near Oxon Hill in PG Co., MD) +Mary Clark (1st wife daughter of Robt. Clark) (2.) Frances b. 1710 (2.) Henry b. 7/8/1708 (2.) Gilbert b. 11/4/1712 + Ann (Lowe) ???? (2nd wife of Frances may have been a Lindsey...my guess) One child a son John T. (2.) John Tolson (1715-1768) + Ann Lowe (1733-1776) Johns will mentions 5 children and Goddaughter Sarah Lindsey and Godson John Tolson Lowe...... He willed cash to Sarah Riddle daughter of Frances Riddle and her sister Susannah. Executors John Lowe, John Baynes, Nathaniel Magruder, Michael Lowe. (3.) Frances (1762-1824) m1 Ann Middleton m2 Elizabeth Semmes (3.) Henry (3.) John Jr....never married mentions Godson Samuel Lowe and give Basil Lowe clothes (3.) Ann m. ??? Stonestreet (3.) Elizabeth...never married mentions Uncle Henry Lowe and Uncle James Lowe. Also James, Henry, and Richard Stonestreet.. Mentions Aunt Amelia Fahern... Now to put this together and see what you come up with based on the Major John Lowe chart I sent the other night... Note Susannah Riddle in the 1776 will that could be John Tolson Lowe's future wife who is mentioned as a Godson...... This is like a large picture puzzle.. By the way Henry Lowe m. Ann Stonestreet was the granddaughter of Thomas Christian Stonestreet as noted in Thomas's 1771 will... Perhaps other Tolson researchers can help set us set the record straight here.. I have been looking for his father for about 25 years with little luck. I know he is somehow related to John Tolson Lowe but I have not been able to make the connection. Allen was born about 1815 in Spanish Florida. William Lowe, John Tolson's brother, was probably in Florida at that time too. The reason I am certain that Allen was related to John T. was he served about five enlistments with John Wesley Lowe, John T's son. In one they were both listed as being born in Nassau County and both had the same color hair, eyes and complexion. Both were farmers which doesn't mean much. In your msg to Bob you mentioned John Tolson's will. Do you have the complete will and where can I get a copy of it? Susannah Riddle Lowe stated in her pension app that her last child was born in Florida in 1808 so that leaves Susannah and John T. out unless Allen was illegitimate. How are you related to John Tolson? 2. ann stinson
    3. Bill, you have a question mark beside the marriage of John Lowe to Mary Hawkins. The information below should provide a pretty clear answer. Mary Hawkins made a deposition re: George Tubman in PG County June 12, 1755 at which time she was said to be 74. That would make her birth date 1681 which would make that particular Mary a little old. John Lowe and his wife, Mary, of Prince George's County, MD conveyed on May 3, 1727, tracts of land each side of Portobacco Fresh, 330 acres. This land was given by Henry Hawkins, late of Charles County, to Mary Hawkins, his natural daughter and now Mary Lowe, wife of John Lowe. (Land:L#2.355) Ann

    1. 1600s and 1700s information
    2. I am looking for any information on Longworths as early as the middle 1600s. Three brothers born after 1635 were born in VA. The brothers had a falling out and one branch of the family went to Maryland. I am trying to find that branch of the family. Any Longworth info for the 1600s or 1700s is very much appreciated. Not sure which Maryland County they ended up in. Patricia

    1. Article of Interest to those Searching for Slave Ancestors
    2. Bank Records Aid in Slaves History By DARLENE SUPERVILLE .c The Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) - A young boy is stolen away from Africa, sold into slavery, left to fend for himself after winning his freedom in the Civil War. Buried in the 1870 bank record for 20-year-old George Thompson is much more than the dry stuff of deposits, withdrawals, dollars and cents. His life story unfolds in a new collection of records from the Freedman's Bank that offers glimpses into a period in America's history when blacks moved from slavery to citizenship. ``Doesn't know father or mother's names or brothers and sisters. Was stolen away from Africa, thinks when he was about 15 years old,'' says the record for Thompson, who worked as a driver for a doctor and deposited his money in the bank's New York branch. Created by President Lincoln in 1865, mostly to help freed slaves after the war, the Freedman's Bank folded within a decade, costing depositors some or all of their savings. More than a century later, the surviving records are making it easier for many Americans to search out their pasts. The bank records tell when and where an account was opened and, in most cases, list the depositor's age, address, occupation, military history - even height and complexion. Names of former slave owners were sometimes listed, too. ``Has two moles under the right eye. Widow. Rents from Mrs. Crawley,'' reads part of the May 1869 notation on the bank card of Mary J. Green. David Tavis, who opened an account in the Washington branch in September 1866 with $10, is described in precise terms. ''5 ft. 4 in. Dark,'' his record says. The files also note when a depositor ``signed own name,'' suggesting some could read and write. Unsure, perhaps, of how they'd fare on their own, some depositors left explicit instructions on how their savings should be handled. Sarah Nugent, born free in Charles County, Md., and the mother of William Henry, put $20 into a new account in Washington in March 1868. ``I desire that whatever money I may have in the bank in case of my death to be paid to my son above named,'' said Nugent, who lived near what is now Washington's Foggy Bottom neighborhood. Not all the bank's depositors were black. Whites, often immigrants from Germany, Ireland and Italy, trusted the Freedman's Bank with their savings, too. Other account holders were natives of Africa and the West Indies. Irish native Isaac Williamson, 59, a tinsmith in New York City, was excited about opening an account in late 1871. ``Is too nervous to write his name,'' his bank card noted. A new CD-ROM arranges the nearly 480,000 names from the bank's 37 branches in 17 mostly Southern states to show relationships among depositors, including names of spouses, parents, children and grandchildren - all valuable leads for genealogists Researchers say the disk is important because the records, which are housed at the National Archives, aren't well organized. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormons, spent 11 years, with help volunteered by Utah prison inmates, extracting and linking the names before releasing the disk for sale in February. The church, which teaches that family ties continue beyond the grave and encourages members to trace their roots, collects genealogical data from around the world and maintains a database of more than 400 million names, which is available on the Internet. The disk already is saving amateur genealogists like Hollis Gentry a lot of leg work. Gentry, 37, began her research 25 years ago after the publication of ``Roots,'' in which Alex Haley traced six generations of his family back to West Africa. She found a great-great uncle - self-employed shoemaker and Civil War veteran Daniel Langley - after countless hours searching records at the Archives. Comparing her library notes against the disk, Gentry unexpectedly found another great-great uncle with just a few computer-mouse clicks as she sat in her one-room apartment, surrounded by rows of reference books and binders stuffed with information about long-ago relatives. St. Paul Langley, a brother of Daniel, opened an account at the Norfolk, Va., branch of the Freedman's Bank in 1873 for an organization called the Young Juvenile Samaritans. He served on its banking committee. ``Prior to that I had no information indicating that he had money in the bank,'' Gentry said, marveling at the ease of her computer-assisted search. ``It'll make it a whole lot easier and a lot faster to locate a record if one exists.'' 1. Ninian Mockbee
    2. Bailey
    3. I am looking for the parents and ancestry of Ninian Mockbee. I think in the 1800? Census that a Ninian and Brock McBee/Macbee were next to each other in Montgomery County, MD.. I wonder if a Brock Mockbee may be his father...... In the abstracts of Wills, Montgomery County, MD. 1776-1825, Ninian's will of June 30,1812 lists his wife Mary and heirs: daughters Nancy Smith, Milli Lowe, Anna Lowe, Fanny Buxton, Cordelia, and Martha, and son Ninian... I think another son in the 1800 Census must have died or moved away.. Wife Mary's surname is listed as Mary Thomlison (see Roots Web worldconnect). My main interest is the Nehemiah Lowe family who I think might be related to Zadock Lowe from Forestville and Upper Marlboro. Milli was apparently Amelia/Permilia Mockbee who married Nehemiah Lowe (b. 1756) in Prince Georges County, MD. Henry Lowe married sister Ann Mockbee. Henry Lowe was probably a brother, son, or cousin of Nehemiah Lowe as Henry listed Nehemiah as a laborer on an indenture. I believe Martha "Patsy" married a William Linson (see Roots Web Worldconnect) Would appreciate some help from the Mockbee descendants with the family of this Ninian Mockbee ? Thanks Bill Bailey, Antioch, Ca., 94509

Both Uncle John Lowe and Henry Lowe, Sr. I believe are sons of John Lowe, Sr. and grandchildren of Major John and Rebecca (Wright/Wight) Lowe. His grandchildren were Colonel Henry and Colonel Vincent Lowe and I think they had a brother named John Lowe.... I am related to Joseph O’Neal, Father of William O’Neale, Father of Laurence or Lawrence O’Neal, Father of John O’Neale, Father of the infamous “Rebel Rose” Rose Maria O’Neal Greenhow of Civil War fame. All of the above resided and moved around through Maryland, in St. Mary’s, Calvert, Montgomery, Frederick Counties, to name a few during the 1600’s through 1800’s. All were land owners and I have some documentation on the lands they owned. I would like to share what information I have on the O’Neale’s.
