I need volunteers to help format the scanned in MUDD books. Any people? Charles
Dear people: I have a hypothesis, not yet tested so I believe, that may soon reveal the identity and ancestry for several generations of our Major John LOWE. At the very least, it will affirm or deny the hypothesis. Regardless the outcome, I shall present some findings that will, perhaps, shake the very foundations of current LOWE family understanding. Any anticipation? I will get back to you on this subject once my research if Derbyshire concludes my investigation. Charles Mudd, Esq.
Does anyone have a picture/copy of John LOWE's actual will and not the calendar as listed below? Can someone obtain such for us? 30 May 1698 - 15 July 1701 Will of John LOWE, St. Marys Co. To wife, Rebecca, extx. personalty including testators interest in certain vessels. To daughters: Elizabeth, Alice, Eleanor, personalty. To son, John, at majority and heirs, Brothers Joint Interest in Prince Georges Co. In event of his death during minority or without issue, to revert to wife, Rebecca. To daughter, Rebecca, The Guardian. In event of her death during minority or without issue to revert to son John aforesaid. Testators: Henry Phipps, Robert Mason. By note attached to afsd. will testator binds his kinsman Marshall Low to Charles Beckwith for term of 5 years, desiring that he be brought up a Protestent. Lib. 11, Folio 175. Charles Mudd
Folks, Sending test messages to lists is not something any of us should be doing. Commenting on such messages by members is also not an acceptable message. As the list owner, it is my responsibility to monitor the activity on the list. When members become involved in telling other members what to do or not to do, the list conversation deteriorates rapidly. If you have a complaint to register, please send it to me. My address appears at the bottom of every posted message. Thank you, -- Carol Askey Maryland USGenWeb Coordinator Allegany & Prince George's County MDGenWeb Coordinator
Do we ever have anything specifically indicating Major John LOWE's age or birthdate? Charles Mudd
Before I engage researchers in Derbyshire, I want to confirm that Major John's parents remain a mystery. If anyone has found any recent clues, please advise. I am determined to discover the answer, wherever it might lay. Charles Mudd
John.... Most of our information on John Sewall and Jane Lowe is based on the St. Mary Lowe family noted sketchily in several books like Effie Gwynn Bowie's book on Prince Georges County, MD... However much information can be gleaned from my favorite online site Roots Web Worldconnect with Sewall connections that will let you visit with the folks related to the Sewall/Sewell family..... http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=normio7&id=I26389 http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=twparker&id=I1142 3 http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=madagtenet&id=I22 438 Good Luck, Bill Bailey, Antioch, Ca., 94509 -----Original Message----- From: johndortco [mailto:johndortco@lor.net] Sent: Tuesday, June 12, 2001 12:01 PM To: Bailey Subject: Re: SEWELL, LOWE, WHARTON, GREEN, COMBS, HAMILTON and BLANDFORD. Could you point me to someone who cares? I'll take this kind of failure over many successes.
If this was a real test you would have failed for not following directions. I'm testing all my mail lists. Well some I know work, others I haven't heard from for a while. ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1
Barb- The marriage record was: James Burns m. Elizabeth Deakins, 6 Apr. 1813, District of Columbia. I have not been able to find anything about them or even identify them in a census. She MIGHT have been a daughter of John Deakins (he had one whose name I do not know and six that I do know names of - one of whom married in DC in 1802.) Thanks for looking, and for any information. Belle or Isabella Mangum born 1849, lived in Maryland, died after 1880, married Charles Watkins (perhaps on July 09, 1868). She had 3 brothers, Charles, Sonny, and Billy (probably William). She was my Grgrandmother. Her children were Alverda born 1869, Rosa, Harry, Alberta (Birdie) born 1871, Annie Priscilla born May 10, 1875, and Arthur born 1878, One of her daughters, Annie Priscilla lived near Annapolis died January 08, 1947, and married Fielder Bowie Sears of Annapolis. Ruth, I'll peruse thru my stuff for the Burnes/Deakins marriage, very possible that they're related to my Burnes family. Many of them stayed in the DC area, but I don't have descendants for some of them. This will just give me a reason to search harder!! Barb Price
Hi- These names caught my eye - Do you know anything about a James Burns and wife, (ELizabeth?) Deakins, who married early 1800s in DC? (I can't lay my hands on the exact name/date right now.) I am trying to identify her - just possibly a daughter of a Deakins originally from PG Co. There was also a Deakins/Orme marriage of Leonard Marbury Deakins to Ruth Orme, before 1785. This website has the catalog of their holdings. They are supposed to have all county records prior to the Rev. War, and most are on microfilm. They also have film of most records for Maryland counties to a later date. There is a fee for interlibrary loan. The website has all the information. LDS branch libraries also have most county records - deeds, wills, admin., etc., on film. http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/refserv/html/series.html I wrote PG Co. to see if they had estate papers for 1744 (the loose papers often found in a file) - they told me everything was at MSA in Annapolis. You can probably find a Mormon branch library ( via www.familysearch.org) within a reasonable distance of your home. You can order microfilm of these deed indexes and the deed books through the branch library and go through them yourself. Be advised that Maryland county documents of prior to the Rev. War are deposited by law at the Maryland State Archives. MSA also has microfilm of these, which can be ordered through interlibrary loan from your local library. Moses had a daughter named Rebecca, She was married to ___Miles. Does anyone know the first name of her husband.? Several of Moses children gave their children the middle name of Miles. I am looking for the connection between the Miles and Ormes in Montgomery County and Prince Georges County. Anything is welcome. Jan Parker http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/p/a/r/Janice-M-Parker/
I'd be grateful for any information about William Shillitoes of Prince George's County MD, whose will, dated 4 August 1704, was proven 22 November 1704 Prince George's County MD; he left his entire estate, including land on the north side of Pocomoke River in Somerset County MD, to Hannah Smith, who might have been Hannah (-----) Peverall Smith residing in Baltimore County MD at that point. The witnesses to his will were John Demall, Edward Isam, and Thomas Wallers. Many thanks for your help, and best wishes to you.
