    1. Introducing....Major John LOWE
    2. Charles Mudd Jr.
    3. Dear people: I have a hypothesis, not yet tested so I believe, that may soon reveal the identity and ancestry for several generations of our Major John LOWE. At the very least, it will affirm or deny the hypothesis. Regardless the outcome, I shall present some findings that will, perhaps, shake the very foundations of current LOWE family understanding. Any anticipation? I will get back to you on this subject once my research if Derbyshire concludes my investigation. Charles Mudd, Esq.

    3. Folks, Sending test messages to lists is not something any of us should be doing. Commenting on such messages by members is also not an acceptable message. As the list owner, it is my responsibility to monitor the activity on the list. When members become involved in telling other members what to do or not to do, the list conversation deteriorates rapidly. If you have a complaint to register, please send it to me. My address appears at the bottom of every posted message. Thank you, -- Carol Askey Maryland USGenWeb Coordinator Allegany & Prince George's County MDGenWeb Coordinator

    3. Barb- The marriage record was: James Burns m. Elizabeth Deakins, 6 Apr. 1813, District of Columbia. I have not been able to find anything about them or even identify them in a census. She MIGHT have been a daughter of John Deakins (he had one whose name I do not know and six that I do know names of - one of whom married in DC in 1802.) Thanks for looking, and for any information. 3. Hi- These names caught my eye - Do you know anything about a James Burns and wife, (ELizabeth?) Deakins, who married early 1800s in DC? (I can't lay my hands on the exact name/date right now.) I am trying to identify her - just possibly a daughter of a Deakins originally from PG Co. There was also a Deakins/Orme marriage of Leonard Marbury Deakins to Ruth Orme, before 1785. 1. Maryland State Archives
    2. Ruth L. Dunlap
    3. This website has the catalog of their holdings. They are supposed to have all county records prior to the Rev. War, and most are on microfilm. They also have film of most records for Maryland counties to a later date. There is a fee for interlibrary loan. The website has all the information. LDS branch libraries also have most county records - deeds, wills, admin., etc., on film. http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/refserv/html/series.html I wrote PG Co. to see if they had estate papers for 1744 (the loose papers often found in a file) - they told me everything was at MSA in Annapolis. 3. You can probably find a Mormon branch library ( via www.familysearch.org) within a reasonable distance of your home. You can order microfilm of these deed indexes and the deed books through the branch library and go through them yourself. Be advised that Maryland county documents of prior to the Rev. War are deposited by law at the Maryland State Archives. MSA also has microfilm of these, which can be ordered through interlibrary loan from your local library. I'd be grateful for any information about William Shillitoes of Prince George's County MD, whose will, dated 4 August 1704, was proven 22 November 1704 Prince George's County MD; he left his entire estate, including land on the north side of Pocomoke River in Somerset County MD, to Hannah Smith, who might have been Hannah (-----) Peverall Smith residing in Baltimore County MD at that point.
