    3. A friend recently sent me a web address at the Maryland State Archives, where they now have some searchable Baltimore City Directories posted on-line. I am pretty sure many of these have only recently been added. They now have a number of them from 1827-1853, plus Coleman "Colored" Directories from 1913-1946. These are searchable transcriptions of every page, so you can look for names, a list of churches, a list of shoe makers, or whatever. City Directories started with historical sketches of the city. They have those and even advertisements transcribed too. Directories also usually had a map, which may be available if you can get the images. They have a link to view the actual image of each page, which you should try. It did not work on my computer. They have some fairly complicated instructions in their "Help" link if you have this problem. I haven't tackled that yet. Even if you can not get the image, this is a great resource you should be aware of. The address is www.mdarchives.state.md.us/megafile/msa/speccol/sc2900/sc2908/html/officials.html John
