    3. Viola, If nothing else, take a look at some ECKERs or a spelling varitaion, from southeastern PA. (York; Lancaster & other Counties near the Maryland border. They might have a beginning as Pennsylvania-German/PA-Dutch, or might come from the Dutch people of the Nieuw Netherlands Colonies, which extended from north of (New York, NY) to below "South River," later called the Delaware, before the English takeover in 1684. Archive searches from some of the Pennsylvania mailing lists on Rootsweb for these counties may be helpful. Also, as you did not give place names, depending on where in Maryland you are looking, try early Ship's Lists or lists of indenture to ports and locations from New York, to as far south as Virginia.
