Hi Peggy, I am late catching up with my e-mail and wanted to pass this along in the event you did not receive a response to your query about The Baltimore American newspaper. There was a Newspaper called The Baltimore American but it was not established until January 1, 1857, about 28 years after the time frame you are looking for. The Maryland State Archives has some holdings of The Baltimore American. Please see URL: http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/speccol/news/counties/html/ind_bc.html As per the MD State Archives website; "The Baltimore American, and Commercial Advertiser began publication January 1, 1857 [v. 115, no. 18,821] and ceased June 13, 1861 [v. 123, no. 20,208]. It was published daily, except Sunday. It was also published as the American and Commerical Advertiser, January 1-August 28, 1858, and the Baltimore American. Other editions include the Baltimore Weekly American (Baltimore: 1855). The newspaper continues the American and Commerical Advertiser (Baltimore: 1854) and was continued by the American and Commerical Advertiser (Baltimore: 1861)." I've searched the Maryland archives and have had no luck finding such a newspaper. Thanks for your help. Peggy >>
