I am researching my Maryland families and would like any info that anyone can send me on these people: SCHAAF, Johan (or John) born 9/12/1849 (in Germany?), died 8/19/1920 (Catonsville, MD) HUBKA (or HUBKAR), Johanna (or Jennie) born 7/13/1855 (? location), died 5/10/1912 (Catonsville) both are buried in Mount Carmel Cemetery They were married in Baltimore 12/14/1870, had 4 sons: SCHAAF, John SCHAAF, Julius, b. 1879 SCHAAF, William Hugo, b. 4/11/1880, d. 12/10/1950 SCHAAF, ??? One of the brothers (not William) had twins. Believe that Johan and some of the sons may have been bakers, and came from Germany. William owned a grocery store in Catonsville, property in Anne Arundel Co. (on Magathy River) and warehouses on waterfront in Baltimore (now the Harbor area). He lost most of it in the Great Depression. Johanna, I believe came from Ohio (her obituary copied to Toledo and Fort Recovery papers). Believe her mother's name was also Johanna. JONES, Eugene Edward, b. 5/3/1840 (?in Baltimore or Philadelphia area?), d. 5/2/1928 (St. Agnes Hospital, Catonsville). It is believed that he was adopted, and birth family was either DeShields or Pollitt family (no proof of either) CULLIN or FRAZIER, Ruth Jane, b. 3/16/1847 (Baltimore), d. 1/21/1917 (at home: 635 S. Streeper St. Catonsville) I think that CULLIN is her maiden name, and that FRAZIER was a first marriage, but no proof to either. She did have a child: FRAZIER, William, b. 12/1868 (Baltimore), d. 1/24/1935 (Catonsville). He was single and living with his half brother (Walter JONES) at the family home (S. Streeper St.) when he died. Father is listed as William FRAZIER. Ruth Jane and Eugene JONES were married 1/16/1878, had two children: JONES, Walter, born 1/29/1888 (Baltimore), d. 12/3/1957 (John Hopkins Hospital) JONES, Emma, born 4/16/1883 (Baltimore), d. 3/2/1982 (Catonsville) Walter was married 3 times, the last one to HARDESTY, Katie (parents: Oden and Mollie HARDESTY), B. 11/6/1895 (Baltimore), d. 1/19/1963 (John Hopkins) Walter had one son: JONES, Aaron (don't have any other info, and don't think that Katie Hardesty was his mother) Emma married SCHAAF, William Hugo They had 7 children: SCHAAF, Helen Baker (7/14/1902-5/1983) SCHAAF, William Ellsworth (2/29/1904-4/1975) SCHAAF, Elmer (10/5/1907-5/20/1908) SCHAAF, Lillian Ruth Johanna (10/15/1910-10/17/1998) SCHAAF, Audry Emma (4/18/1912-9/8/2000) SCHAAF, Emma Virginia (1/16/1917-still living) SCHAAF, Catherine Edna Loretta (7/28/19230-still living) The following family's info was found in a JONES family bible, but no one living now knows how they are connected. I have wondered if POLLITT is the birth family of Eugene JONES, but it is a supposition on my part. POLLITT, William F. b. 11/11/1787 (in Somerset Co.), d. 11/2/1834 (Baltimore) WARDEN, Emelia b. 5/29/1797 (Baltimore), only daughter of James and Catherine WARDEN They were married in Baltimore on 10/22/1815, and had the following children: (all born in Baltimore) POLLITT, Franklin William, b. 8/1/1816, d. 10/25/1840 (Baltimore) POLLITT, Alfred Henry, b. 2/9/1819, d.8/19/1883 (at 'family home' near Owing Mills, in Baltimore County, called "Ulna" or Ulni" or "Ulm" (print was difficult to read) POLLITT, Annie Emelia, b. 3/28/1824, d.6/19/1884 (at same family home) Emelia's mother, Catherine WARDEN, also died at the family home, on 1/23/1878 If any of these individuals mean anything to any one, please contact me at bdecicca@flare.net
Hi... I am seeking information on the Lum(m) family....George Lum was 66 in the 1880 census for Cavetown, Washington Co., MD and he was married to Mary who was 51. George was the father of Ada(or Adith or Edith) Lum, who was my great great grandmother. I found Ada or Adith in the 1900 census married to Victor Kline. Ada was born Aug 1868 and born in MD according to the 1900 census. Ada was the mother of my great grandfather, Walter Kellar McPherson. Ada, according to the 1900 census, had been married to Victor for 10 years, so they were probably married in 1890, when Walter was 3(he was the son of Edward McPherson and he and Ada never married).Victor and Ada had two children, Marshall Victor and Silas R. accordign to the 1900 census. Walter took the Kline name until he married in 1913. I am looking for any information on the Lum(m) family. I did find George and Mary in the 1860 census, and I so far have not found them in the 1870 census. Also I looked in the 1910 census but did not find them. I looked in Washington Co and Frederick Co, since most of the Klines lived in Frederick Co. I did find Walter and his half brother, Marshall in the 1920 and the 1930 census, married and with children. They lived in 1860, and 1880 in Cavetown, MD, but in 1870 I have not found them. Any help would be appreciated in finding any info on this family. Stephanie Grohol
Hi... I am seeking help in locating my ancestors....I found some information that I found after I posted the last time on this family.... I found out Victor Kline(Mar 1863, MD, according to the 1900 census) was the grandson of Paul Kline(born around 1813 or so, according to the 1880 census in MD). Paul also was the son of George Kline and Elizabeth Walker Kline. Paul was married twice: 1. Alicinda C. Hessong and 2. Roennah Poffenberger. He and Alicinda had 4 children with two grandsons living with him. the children are: Amanda Kline(who was 34 according to the 1880 census), John Kline who was 9 in 1880 census, Joseph Kline(7 in the 1800 census), and Willie Paul Kline(who was 8 months in the 1880 census). His Grandsons were Victor who was 17 in the 1880 census and John Kline who was 3 in the 1880 census. All born in MD. I did locate Victor in the 1870 census and he was 6 yrs old...but still no mention of who his parents were. I also found Victor in the 1900 census for Maryland and he was married to a woman named Ada or Adith (Lum). They had been married 10 years according to the census..so I am assuming they were married aroound 1890..and my great grandfather, Walter Kellar(her son by Edward McPherson) was about 3 when they married. They had two other sons: Marshall Victor and Silas V. Also Walter, for a time, went by Kline, until he married in 1913. I am seeking whatever information anyone has on Paul and his family, plus Victor. I did not find Victor or Ada or Walter in the 1910 census as yet....I have found them in the 1920 and 1930, married and with children. I know 1910 does not have a index as yet, but I am hoping someone can help me in locating them...I believe they could be in either Washington Co., or Frederick Co. I would appreciate whatever help anyone has in helping me find any info on this family. Thank you in advance... Stephanie Grohol

Hi... This is how i am conencted to the Lum family: Starting with me... Stephanie Lynn (McPherson) Grohol (Jan 14, 1971) married Joseph B. Grohol Carroll Walter Mcpherson Jr (July 3, 1943 in Hagerstown, MD) married Donnie Lee Hodges Carroll Walter McPherson Sr(May 3, 1917)) married Wanda Lee Alsip Walter Kellar McPherson (April 1, 1887, Pondsville, MD, died Aug 28, 1984 in Washington Co., MD) married Susan L. Carroll. Walter's biological father was Edward McPherson and he was not married to Walter's mother, who Ada (Adith) Jane Lum(m). Ada or Adith was born August 1868 in MD(as the 1900 census said for MD). I found information on familysearch.org that says Ada's parents were: George and Mary Lum. George was 60 in the 1880 census that I found on Family search.og. and Mary was 51. Edith was 11 in 1880 and she had a brother named David Lum who was 23. They lived in Cavetown, Washington Co., MD. Ada was 18 when her son Walter was born. She went on to marry Victor Kline(Mar 1863 from the 1900 census) and Walter took the Kline name until he married in 1913. In the 1900 census it states that they had been married 10 years, so I am guessing around 1890 or so..because Walter was 3. She and Victor had two sons together....Marshall Victor Kline(17 Mar 1891 in Pondville, MD and died 23 Aug 1969 in Washington Co, MD) and Silas R. who was born March 1900. So that is my connection to the Lum(m) family...if any one has any information on Ada or Adith and her parents and her family, please, I would appreciate any help. Stephanie Grohol
Dear Jayne, Since my great grandfather took part in the Civil War, the letters you shared with us were even more meaningful. They gave me some insight into family Christmases during the time they were missing their loved ones. Thanks again for sharing. I am seeking information on Victor Kline and his family. I found them in the 1900 Washington County, MD census, but so far I have not found them in the 1910 census. Victor was born March 1863 in MD and he was married to Adith(?) or Ada Kline(maiden name was Lum(m)born Aug 1868). Ada had a son from a previous relationship named Walter K(born April 1887). He went by Kline until he married in 1913 and then he went by his father's last name of McPherson. Victor and Ada had two children together: Marshall Victor Kline born March 1891 in MD and Silas R. born March 1900. I am wondering if someone has any information on them? I am trying to find them in the 1910 census...but so far no luck....they were living in Cavetown, Washington Co., MD in 1900...and when I searched 1920..no info..except for the two sons....Walter and Marshall..of course the 1910 census has Walter has N L. I did find them in the 1930 census....and Walter's name is correct. Anyone with any other info...would be a great help. I did find Victor in 1880 census with his grandfather, Paul Kline in Frederick Co., MD. I would appreciate the help in locating my ancestors..Walter K. was my great-grandfather. Thanks in advance if someone can help... Stephanie Grohol

Seeking any information on the following family - I have only recently linked them in with my Henry Graff and now wish to find out more about all of them! George is supposedly one of three brothers that left Germany at the same time. One went to Australia and the other two to U.S. -Not sure who the other brother is, or what ship they came over on. Sons went their scattered ways - one to Ohio then NY, one to Missouri, and one stayed in Maryland. Sound familiar to anyone?
