    1. [MDGEN] Maryland Marriages
    2. Elise Urbaniak
    3. Is there an index of marriages in Baltimore, MD, around 1920-1930? Looking for a marriage for Soffia TRAWINSKI. She was on 1920 census with parents and not on 1930. She would have been about 20 years old in 1930. Thanks for any suggestions. 3. Viola, If nothing else, take a look at some ECKERs or a spelling varitaion, from southeastern PA. (York; Lancaster & other Counties near the Maryland border. They might have a beginning as Pennsylvania-German/PA-Dutch, or might come from the Dutch people of the Nieuw Netherlands Colonies, which extended from north of (New York, NY) to below "South River," later called the Delaware, before the English takeover in 1684. Archive searches from some of the Pennsylvania mailing lists on Rootsweb for these counties may be helpful. Also, as you did not give place names, depending on where in Maryland you are looking, try early Ship's Lists or lists of indenture to ports and locations from New York, to as far south as Virginia. Tht's my best until after the end of the week... 3. This is very true. When I searched for my great grandmother's death certificate I sent the info and money to and said she died in Baltimore City. I had the exact death date and even the obituary. I got a letter back saying they could not find it, but for a little more money they would search county records. Come to find out while she lived in Baltimore City from the time she came fro Ireland, when she got ill she went to live with a daughter who was living in Anne Arundel County at the time. I also never knew the daughter had lived in the county, and I mentioned it to another relative who remembered both of these people. She said yes, she knew my great grandmother had gone to live with her daughter but had not thought of saying anything!! Ask your dad if he is sure he went to see him in the City. As a result, their death certificate was in that county instead of their home county. Do you suppose your grandfather was at someone else's home when he died and the certificate would be filed there instead of his home county. It is possible that it might even be in another state if he had children who lived out of state. LIke I said.... just an idea. Take care - Emma

    1. [MDGEN] ? re lack of death record
    2. Bruce L. Nicholson
    3. Looking for advice and possible explanation for inability to find death certificate in MD after 1920. I am trying to find the parents of my great grandfather, Samuel F. Nicholson of Baltimore City (I know, it had to be a name like Smith!). He was born in MD in 1849. I have found him and his family in most Census records up to and including 1920. In the 1920 Census, he is 71 and head of household which included his wife (age 67) and his 21 year old son and 21 year old daughter. I was hoping that his death certificate might include the name of his father. However, after searching the death record indexes of both Baltimore City and the counties for every year from 1930 until he would have been 100, I have not been able to find a record of his death. Nor have I been able to find a record of the death of his wife. Is it possible that both he and his wife died without any death certificate being recorded? He had six children. One daughter married a man from Virginia. Although with five other children living in Baltimore I think it is unlikely considering he was in his mid 70s that he moved a great distance, I suppose he and his wife could have moved to live with his daughter in Virginia and they both died there. However, my father told me that he saw him in Maryland "when he was dying" (about 1937). So, back to my original question. How likely is it that both he and his wife could have died between 1920 and 1938 in Baltimore City without any record of their deaths? Thank you, Bruce Bruce L. 1. [MDGEN] Ebert/Rommel of Baltimore
    2. I am looking for Nellie May Ebert. She was the daughter of Charles Arnold and Anna Elizabeth (Rommel) Ebert. Nellie was born in Baltimore ca March 1899-1900. Nellie's parents divorced when she was a very young child. She remained with her mother in Baltimore. If anyone has a copy of the 1910 Baltimore census she is possibly listed with her parents. I would appreciate anyone who could check Baltimore marriages after 1916; I would love to know her married name in an effort to establish contact with Nellie's descendants. Thank you kindly! Sue
