    3. I really do not mean to be picky, but didn't the list Admin. ask for the Surnames to be in the Subject line? It just makes it so much easier on us people who have other things to do besides opening each message to find out who you are looking for. 3. Elberta: Samuel Royston (b. abt. 1748 -) married Rachael Jacobs in Baltimore Co. by Dr. West on 18 Mar 1784. (from Layton files at MD Hist Soc.) He is not in the Estate Administration of Thomas Royston (sometimes Riston) and Margaret Sinclair. He may be related but maybe not in that family group. Some list him as the oldest son. I have not looked for him in Anne Arundel 1810 census. I have not crossed paths with a Zadock Ryston (or variations). Yes, Thomas, can be found as Royston and Riston. (The Ancestry of Dr. Franklin B. McClung, by J. S. Guilford @ Balt Co Gen Soc). He chose John Royston, prob. his Uncle, guardian on Apr 15 1789 Baltimore Co. Orphan's Proc. WB#2:104. I do not know where he and his wife Clarissa H. Watts lived. He was a minor at his father's death and Orphan's court proceedings, so born after (probably) 1768. I don't more about his age. Do you know anything about Clarissa Watts? Are these folks connected to the Thomas Royston (sometimes Riston) and Margaret Sinclair family? Have you found Thomas Royston, son of Thomas and Margaret going by the name Royston or Riston, or sometimes both like his father? Could he be the Thomas Riston who was enumerated in the Alexandria, DC 1820 Census? The oldest male is shown to be 45 and upwards, making him born 1775 or before. As I understand it, the son Thomas was born around 1774. 2. My name is Sue Thomspon; Chattanooga, Tennessee MAYNOR I'm researching the MAYNOR family starting with William Maynor, b. ca 1703, Baltimore. He married Martha Tucker on 14 Dec 1729, Baltimore. Martha was the daughter of Richard Tucker. They lived in the Gunpowder Falls area of Baltimore. William's father may have been James Maynor, b. ca 1681, St. Paul's Parish, Baltimore. MOLES I am also researching the MOLES family. I would like to know more about William Moles, who served in Col. Thomas Ewing's Battalion, mustered on 28 July 1776, St. Mary's County. There was a John MOLES in Baltimore in 1780. There was a Nicholas MOLES in Hartford County in 1800. If you have any records of a MOLES family in Maryland I would be most interested. You may have solved a brickwall for me. Thank you, and happy researching to each of you!

Riston was born in 1871 in Baltimore. I've been unable to find him in the 1880 census, which might give direction as to who his parents were. As a child growing up, I was told that my grandfather had been left an orphan. I did find a Samuel, foundling, 6 enumerated in a Catholic orphanage in Baltimore. I wrote them requesting information, but only heard back that they would look into it. I don't think the family knew the name of his father, because I have a picture just labeled S. N. Riston's father. The picture of the mother says Mary Sinclair, S. N. Riston's mother. According to all the census Mary Sinclair was born in MD. I've been unable to find a marriage between a Mary Sinclair and an unknown Riston in a reasonable timeframe prior to 1871. Until I'm able to find a marriage between Mary Sinclair and Unknown Riston I'm up against the Wall. Most of my searching has been around Baltimore, but this marriage could have taken place in any county, so if anyone has indexes to marriages in other counties for this time period and would be willing to check it out, I would really appreciate it. I sent for my grandfather's death certificate, luckily it was in Oct before the MD Archives shut down on such certificates, but I don't hold out much luck on obtaining new information. Edward Riston of Baltimore in 1722 could be an ancestor, but I have a big gap to close before 1722. Thanks, Elberta Elberta

    3. How about an Edward Royston marrying Eleanor Neal in St.Paul's parish, Baltimore Co., MD. No detail on any descendants. Edward's name was also spelled Edward Ristone. Surnames of Riston & Royston were commonly interchanged in this time period. There is also an Edward Royston b. abt 1689 in Baltimore Co., MD. He was at least 16 in 1705 and may have used the spelling Riston. Son of John I Royston (abt.1657 - bef. 6 Sep 1699.) Might be the same , I don't know. Any other facts?
