The United Methodist Historical Society located at Lovely Lane Methodist Museum and Archives: Thank you for all the wonderful emails from my earlier email. I did forget to tell you where the archives is located. 2200 St. Paul Street Baltimore, MD 21218 This is at the corner of 22nd and St. Paul. St Paul is one block east of Charles Street. St Paul runs one-way south and Charles is one-way north. 22nd is one-way west and 23rd one-way east. Therefore from St Paul it is a right onto 22nd street. The lovely Lane Church is on the corner. The archive is in the basement and entered from the back. There is an alley. I forget the name that runs between 22 and 23rd. Parking is beside the church on 22nd or in alley right along side the church back. Their telephone number is 410—889-4458. Their email is lovlnmus@bcpl.net <mailto:lovlnmus@bcpl.net> Please email them to ask what area this conference covers and where the other archives are in the area. They also have a very comprehensive Minister records card file that Rev. Ed Schell is still maintaining. He still comes in about 2 days a weeks and his head is a wealth of information that amazes me. The United Methodist Historical Society located at Lovely Lane Methodist Museum and Archives: Just though I would share this with you. Each time I go to the archives, I am amazed at what I find. While I realize now from my research that most of my relatives were Methodist in Baltimore, I never realized all the information that I would find at the archives. I have found baptismal records with parent’s names and birth date. I have found marriages far easier than at the MSA. I have found address changes and church changes when they moved to a new area of town. I have found death notices and I have also found cemetery information. All of these for 19th century, pre-vital governmental record keeping days. But beside the vital data information, I have also found why couples came to marry. (they were members of the same church as children) but also where and what type wedding they had. (Parsonage, church, home—and what home). Instead of searching through poorly photographed microfilm, I get to touch and use the original records. I even found notes that my grandmother placed on little pieces of paper in one church’s old books 50 years ago. The notes told me where to find the information that had been eluding me for the last 5 years. I recognized her handwriting immediately and the notes simply said “page xx, line xx”. I looked there and low and behold, there it was. I was only the next person to have touched the books—50 years later! Which brings me to another point—very few people visit or use the records they keep there. Also while they are doing a great job now, they still need more money to preserve the records for future generations. And do they have records…many more that I can touch on here. Membership is only $10.00 yearly for an associate membership. Other Membership categories are available. I am considering a lifetime membership, which is a bargain at $200.00. But if not a member, a visit is only $2.00. I found it much less expensive to join because I now go fairly often. Also there are other benefits if you cannot visit. The staff will do research for $15.00 per hour if not a member and $10.00 per hour if a member if you are not in the area. Lovely Lane is the mother church of Methodism in the United States. The records include the Baltimore, Washington, DC and western Maryland conferences. The Baltimore fire of 1904 did affect their records but they still have records back to the early 1800’ s. Their telephone number is 410—889-4458. Their email is lovlnmus@bcpl.net <mailto:lovlnmus@bcpl.net> Suni Johnson is the new director and Wanda Barnes Hall is the new archival assistant. Wanda does the research requests. Please think of this resource when doing Maryland research. AND PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING! For anyone who is interested, I learned something about Holy Redeemer Cemetery this weekend. I had a family member pass away and she was buried in this cemetery. There was a note on the door of the office stating it was permanently closed. The office was moved to Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, 7401 German Hill Road. Phone number 410-284-0648. Hope this is helpful to someone. Monica Mullikin

Would like to exchange information with anyone interested in GRAHAM families that lived in Baltimore during the mid and/or late 1800s. Jerry
Everyone, I performed a quick check on the validity of email addresses on the Goodman Clearinghouse query pages and found that about 50% were no longer valid. Please, if you have a query posted, check to make sure that it lists your current email address. Shortly I will begin deleting the queries that are not valid, which would be a shame for there is valuable information posted there. Thank You, Dave Goodman The GOODMAN Clearinghouse http://www.bcpl.net/~dmg Baltimore PC Users Group http://www.baltimorepcug.org Baltimore County Genealogical Society http://www.serve.com/bcgs/bcgs.html

I am seeking a child of Mrs. Doris Lewis,(Federal Hill/Locust Point Area) Doris would have been born about 1920-1930ish, and her birthplace is unknown. The child I seek was born about 1954 and she and that child have some sort of connection to my father. It is believed that Doris lived in South Baltimore, most likely the Locust Point area or maybe Federal Hill. It is possible that her child is a half sibling to me and my sister. Anxious to hear from you in case you can help. Regards D. Smith
Hi, I have some Schulz/Schultz in my Hill line. Eliza Jane Schultz. You will find her in my Hill list which I am encluding with this email. Mel Hill mghill@gte.net I am sending you a portion of my Hill line. See if you can find any connections here with yours. If this is a duplication for you please forgive my memory. Mel I don't know when my Hill's come to America I have a list of them and from what I have found on the net they may have came from England, not proven as yet but close. My gggrandfather John Hill was born in Md abt/1794 his wife was Phoebe (handed down that she was indian, Cherokee) According to the 1850 census of Ohio they moved to Ohio from Md some time around 1826 or 1827 because that 1850 census shows their two oldest children to have been born in Md and the rest starting in 1827 were born in Ohio. His parents were either 1. William Hill b/abt1751 and Mary Parkinson/Perkinson. or 2. Abraham Hill unknown date. I believe that a Richard Hill figures in there also. I don't have that info in front of me so I am not sure is Richard was father or brother. More info My Hill ancestors came from Md to Ohio. They were from Taneytown/Harney, Md area. I have found them in Frederick, Md. (must have been married there) they moved to Guernsey, County Ohio some time around 1826 or 1827 I know this because their two oldest children were born in MD while the rest were born in Ohio (Shown by 1850 Ohio Census). My gggrandfather John Hill, his wife and at least two of his children are buried in Center Cemetery near Cambridge, Ohio. He married Phoebe/Phebe (Spelling? and last name unknown), It has been passed down to us that she was indian (possibly Cherokee). I believe his father was either William Hill b/abt/1851 in Md, around Harney or Taneytown (pronounced tawnytown) or possibley Abraham Hill who I believe are related in some way. I have been in touch with others who are related and have a lot of correspondence from them regarding our Hill line. I am including my Hill line. And would appreciate hearing from you regarding your Hill line so we can compare notes. Thanks, Mel Hill mghill@gte.net <mailto:mghill@gte.net> My ggrandfather John Hill was born in Maryland 1794/1793, I believe in Frederick, Maryland. Married a Phoebe (last name unknown, but believed to be indian, possibly Cherokee) His father and mother could be either William Hill b/MD/1751, or Abraham Hill b/????. John and Phoebe had 7 children that I am aware of, as follows: William Armstrong . b/1824 MD, Harriet b/1826 MD, Ester/Esther b/1827 OH, Phoebe b/1830 OH, John b/1832 OH, Judith/Judy b/ 1834 OH, Sarah b/1840 OH. Around 1826/27 John Phoebe and his first two children plus I don't know who else moved to Guernsey County, Ohio. At some time John's son,William A., and family packed up and moved to Southern Iowa. I, too, have Grimes in Maryland. My earliest Grimes is Joshua Grimes born in 1805 in Frederick County/Carroll County. He married Eliza Barnes born in 1816 in Carroll County. I have been told that the Harrison File at the Westminster Library that belongs to the Carroll County Genealogy Society has all the answers for the Grimes. I have not been able to get up there to see this file. I bet it has answers for you since your ancestor was names William Harrison Grimes. Maybe your relative and mine were relatives.
