Hi Folks, I'm looking for Ridgeway / Phipps connections from 1870 -1925. My dad always thought Clarence Phipps of Annapolis or Baltimore was his 3rd cousin, or thought of him as a 3rd cousin. Dad died in 1962 so my memory may not be perfect. Never the less I haven't been able to find a direct connection (maybe I haven't waited long enough). Recently, I discovered that Georgianna Ridgeway, listed as a niece, was living in my grgrandmother's (Isabella Mangum) household. Georgianna was 10, my grandmother, Annie Priscilla Watkins was 8 when the 1880 census was taken. My grgrandmother (she was divorced per the census) appears to have married Georgianna's older brother Mordecai Ridgeway in 1881. I can see how a sense of relationship could develop, even if the absence of a blood connection. If Georgianna, one of her sibs, or if Isabella and Mordecai had children and one of them married into Clarence Phipps' family there could be a sense of family in the first case or an actual connection in the second case. So, who are the possible people here? >From the 1870 census: ====================== 8th Election District, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, South River Post Office, Handwritten Page 65, Printed Page 795, Dwelling 427, Family 430: Ridgeway, Leonard, 6* (the age has a smear across it, it appears to be 65 , but I can't be sure) , M, W, Farm Hand, Personal Estate: 250, Birthplace: Maryland ", Mary B, 41, F, W, Keeping House, Birthplace Maryland ", Mordecai, 25, M, W, Farm Hand, Birthplace Maryland ", Mary E, 22, F, W, at home, Birthplace Maryland ", Harriett, 20, F, W, at home, Birthplace Maryland ", R*****, 16, M, W, Farm Hand, Birthplace Maryland, cannot read or write ", Margaret, 14, F, W, Birthplace Maryland, attended school within the year ", Alice P, 12, F, W, Birthplace Maryland, attended school within the year ", John T, 8, M, W, Birthplace Maryland, Attended school within the year, cannot write ", Georgiana, 8/12, F, W, Birthplace Maryland, If born within the year state month: Oct (Note since the census was enumerated 24 June 1870, she apparently was born in October 1869) 1880 Census ====================== Census Place: Precinct 1, District 1, Anne Arundel, Maryland Source: FHL Film 1254494 National Archives Film T9-0494 Page 22C Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Bell WATKINS Self F D W 30 MD Occ:Keeps House Fa: MD Mo: MD Birdie WATKINS Dau F S W 9 MD Fa: MD Mo: MD Annie WATKINS Dau F S W 8 MD Fa: MD Mo: MD Arthur WATKINS Son M S W 2 MD Fa: MD Mo: MD Georgiana RIDGEWAY Niece F S W 10 MD Fa: MD Mo: MD LDS Site ====================== According to the LDS site Mordecai H. Brick Wall 1) Who James Reynolds married and where. he was b. 1787 in Chester Lancaster PA. They were Quakers) Father Levi Reynolds and Mother Jane (King) Reynolds Jane married Thomas Waring after Levi died in Cecil County MD (James was 11) Jane died shortly after that - James seems to have stayed with Thomas for a few years. Possible clues to where he lived and who he married before he came to OH before 1820. Children born in MD- 2 not 100% sure Levi Reynolds - before 1814 George W. Reynolds 1814 1 for sure Matilda Reynolds b. 1817. Not sure what religion James was practicing at this time or later in OH. Some cousins in Salem OH were still Quakers but have found nothing on James. Eventually family were Methodist. Other Families from Allegeny that also had marriage and migration to OHIO ties after 1820 were Bucy, (Busey), and Chaney. (Others in MD were Twiggs, Robinette) Thomas Bucy son of Edward Bucy married Elizabeth Chaney, daughter of Jesse and Mary Chaney - Thomas and Elizabeth also migrated to Holmes County OH later, and eventually Thomas Married Matilda Reynolds - James' daughter. I keep thinking they may have know each other when they lived in MD. But I haven't located where Matilda was born or who or where James married. Appreciate any assistance. Thanks Dee Behrens (Reynolds) in OH [email protected]

Dear Betty, Thank you very much for your response. I will surely try to find my Linthicums in the book that you suggested at Kuethe Library Historical and Genealogical Research Center. I have been to Kuethe before and have just started researching my Linthicums. Thanks for the tip! Dee
Dee, There is a book about the Linthicums which may be of help to you, "Genealogy of the Linthicum and Allied Families," by Matilda P. Badger, published in 1934. Our Kuethe Library Historical and Genealogical Research Center on Crain Highway in Glen Burnie (next to the Glen Burnie Improvement Association, in front of the carnival grounds) has a copy of this book. If you haven't already done so, you should go and take a look at it. Betty
I am interested in your Goldstraw line. I have an Evelyn Goldstraw who married August Schuh in Baltimore, MD. Nothing else on the family.
Hi, I hope someone can help me with my Brickwall. My great great grandfather was Charles K. Linthicum born about December 1858 supposedly in Maryland. His wife was Augusta Hockmeier/Hokemeyer or some variation of that name. Augusta had a brother named Henry who was living with Charles and Augusta at North Register according to the 1900 census. Augusta and Henry were born in Germany. I have found Charles K. Linthicum and Augusta in the 1920 census living at List Avenue in Lauraville Park. Charles K (Keyser?) Linthicum was a clerk and and a salesman/merchant. Charles K. Linthicum and his wife Augusta had two children, William H. Linthicum born August 1898 and Charles Keyser Linthicum born November 29, 1899. Charles Keyser Linthicum was my great grandfather and was married to Florence May Nagel, daughter of John S. Nagel, Sr and Augusta Grosscup. I have been unsuccessful in finding Charles K. Linthicum in any census before 1900 and am hoping someone can help me out as I am looking for Charles' parents. I have followed Charles K. Linthicum in the Baltimore City directories and found that he lived with Charles G. Linthicum who was a veteranary surgeon, as well as William B. Linthicum and George W. Linthicum from at least 1882 through 1895 on Columbia Avenue and from in the 1896 Directory Charles K. lived with Charles G at 509 S. Paca. Also listed in 1896 is a Cora Linthicum who was a teacer. Charles G. Linthicum dissappeared from the Baltimore directories in 1899. In 1896 Charles G. Linthicum and his son George W. Linthicum had a business called Charles G. Linthicum & Son, Veterinary Surgeons. Their business was located at 516 Elbow Lane in Baltimore. I do know that George W. was the son of Charles G. Linthicum, I am hoping someone can tell me if my Charles K. Linthicum and William B. Linthicum were also sons of Charles G. other then assuming by the addresses I have found searching through the city directories. Anyone who has found Charles G. Linthicum in any Census records or who is researching this family, OR has any additional information on the Augusta and Henry Hockmeier/Hokemeyer, Grosscup/Groscup or Nagels, I would love to hear from you! Thanks a bunch, Dee Gabler Pasadena, MD
Hello fellow researchers, I found a marriage extract on ancestry.com which states that my 2nd great grandparents Robert McCoy and Mary Frisby Handy were married in Kent County on 3 Mar 1827. The extract also had [DR.] next to his name. I would like any vital or social information on Robert and Mary in Kent County anyone knows of or can access with relative ease. I know Mary's father's genealogy which goes back through Somerset County. I found an 1840 Chancery Court index petition for a land sale in Baltimore involving Mary and children but not husband Robert. I'm ordering a copy. Were they residents of Baltimore County or City for a while? An LDS listing had both of their birth places and death places (with question marks) as Somerset County. He is listed as (abt. 1808 - 1838) and she is listed as (28 May 1808 - 1884) Their children are: Mary Tilden McCoy (23 Oct 1831 - abt 1900) - Somerset County for birth and death. Andrew McCoy (29 Nov 1832 - abt 1900) - Somerset County for birth and death. Henry McCoy (my line) - (25 Dec 1833 - abt 1900) - Somerset County for birth and death. Robert Handy McCoy (16 Jan 1835 - abt 1900) - Somerset County for birth and death. Cassandra Handy McCoy (4 Apr 1838 - abt 1900) - Somerset County for birth and death. As you can see, the similarity of birth dates for the parents and death dates for the children leaves a lot to be desired. I would be great to have accurate dates for Robert, Mary and siblings, if possible, and super to find Robert McCoy's parents and siblings. It would also be super to learn the identity of the parents of Mary Frisby Handy's mother Mary Frisby Tilden (1780 - 1851) married to George Day Scott Handy (28 Oct 1779 - 21 Dec 1849). Naturally, any social history involving these McCoys is very welcome! Whew! Very gratefully yours, Douglas Rene McCoy in Knoxville, TN.
I don't have that name in my book on Greers but there is a big Greer web page if I can find it. You might click into Mamma's Search Engine and then when on it ask for Greer genealogy. I think that's how I found it. If you don't have any luck, let me know and I'll look for it.
