    1. Re: [MDGEN] Baltimore American Newspaper
    2. Hi Peggy, I am late catching up with my e-mail and wanted to pass this along in the event you did not receive a response to your query about The Baltimore American newspaper. There was a Newspaper called The Baltimore American but it was not established until January 1, 1857, about 28 years after the time frame you are looking for. The Maryland State Archives has some holdings of The Baltimore American. Please see URL: http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/speccol/news/counties/html/ind_bc.html As per the MD State Archives website; "The Baltimore American, and Commercial Advertiser began publication January 1, 1857 [v. 115, no. 18,821] and ceased June 13, 1861 [v. 123, no. 20,208]. It was published daily, except Sunday. It was also published as the American and Commerical Advertiser, January 1-August 28, 1858, and the Baltimore American. Other editions include the Baltimore Weekly American (Baltimore: 1855). The newspaper continues the American and Commerical Advertiser (Baltimore: 1854) and was continued by the American and Commerical Advertiser (Baltimore: 1861)." Dee Gabler Pasadena, Maryland << Subj: [MDGEN] Baltimore Newspaper Date: 8/6/01 4:04:03 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: [email protected] Reply-to: [email protected] To: [email protected] Does anyone know if there was a newspaper called the "Baltimore American" in 1829 in Baltimore? I've searched the Maryland archives and have had no luck finding such a newspaper. Thanks for your help. Peggy >>

    3. I have been using the census online for a few months. It is limited so far regarding the years available, but new ones are being added all the time. You might want to check the years available to see if they are helpful to you at this time. Also, there is a free download that helps with the printing. However, I couldn't say whether it would help your particular situation. You can print a full page which is hard to read. I print the full page and then print the section where my relatives are on the page. I have found the site to be helpful for me. 3. Pat, I have the online census, but it is not very good for me personally. I don't know where in the citites/towns that my ancesters resided and am having to search page by page. So far I havn't found anyone. I only have a 56K modem and it takes awhile for each page to load. You can print blank pages for the census (there is a link on the lower left side of the screen) and then fill in the information if you find someone. I also have Family Tree Maker. The CD's that one would want would depend on who and where they are researching. I have bought several and have not had much luck. I guess my ancesters are well hidden. I was just wondering if anyone has subscribe to it and how you like it. It didn't appear to me that I would be able to print copies of anything, as it doesn't all fit on my screen. Also, I have been putting in some overtime and will have a little extra cash and was considering investing in some of FamilyTreeMaker's cd's. Again, I would like to hear from anyone who has them as to whether they are worthwhile, and are there particular cd's that would be more helpful. I expect this is a lot to ask, but would certainly appreciate any help. Thanks, Pat Ellison; Wittman, Md.
