Hi Dee, Thank you for your response. I have been in touch with the Maryland State Archives and received a reply stating how to get a copy of the paper I was searching for. Everyone has been so helpful and I appreciate it so much. Thank you all again. Peggy

On two different death certificates for my ancestors, the address for the under taker is listed as 115 E. West Street in Baltimore. The names of the undertakers are different, but I presume they both worked for the same business located at that address. I assume that instead of listing the business (such as Ruck Funeral Homes), the person writing down the information wrote the name of the actual person preparing the body of the deceased. In any case, the name of each undertaker is difficult to read. I think one says Elizabeth Harte. The death certificates are from 1894 and 1901. Is anyone aware of a funeral home existing at this address during this time period? Thank you! Meriah
Thank you so much to everyone who replied! I got so much helpful information. Try this site: http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/refserv/genealogy/html/funhomes.html They have listings of some of the funeral homes, and also indicate the years of records kept, and if the records are kept somewhere else, in the case of closing, etc. Good luck. While we are on this subject; does anyone know where the records of Sanders & Son Funeral Directors may be located? Their business was close to/or on the corner of North and Broadway. They were still in business in about 1975 but, so I understand, they are no longer in business. Thanks, JD Rodgers
Meriah, I've had conversations with two funeral directors about old records. They both stated there have been no laws governing records of funeral parlors that close. Some as previously stated are turned over to a larger concern but only of course if they will accept them. Some have simply been destroyed. Some were kept in basements by the director's widows. Who knows what happened to them after that? Sad but true. I had called the Funeral Director's Assn. in MD. Got the same info. Betty
Michael Beeghley and Barbara Zook/Zug married in 1765, Brothers Valley, PA. W.G. Beeghley's book, Descendants of Michael Beeghley and Barro Inken, 1983, is likely based on poorly-interpreted information. Some meticulous research, discussed and reported on this network, says that Barro never existed. Dates and re-interpretation-rereading of the German script, convinced me that a lot of confusion arose from the writing of the name Barbara, his only wife. Michael and Barbara are buried on the Elias Cober farm near Somerset. His positions in the church are accurate. Now! Can anyone connect me with the William Beeghley who was a teacher in Garrett Couny in 1899-1900?? Alice Eary will have him in her history of GC schools. Shucks! I would have been happy to continue believing that I had a Native American kinship! Bettie
The following undertaker records are in the following funeral homes... William Cook Funeral Records are at Ruck Funeral Home in Towson, MD dated back to the 1890's... Brookes Funeral Records are at Ruck Funeral Home in Towson, MD, dated back to the 1890's.. John Burns Funeral Records are at Johnson Funeral Home on Loch Raven Blvd in Towson area, of Baltimore Co. MD... Sincerely, Chris Smithson
that's the way they -- all they want is the $$$ al
According to our local undertaker, the next closest establishment takes over the records. They advised contacting the group that all the undertakers belong to, but they never answer my inquiry even with a SSAE. The Maryland Historical Society does have the records of one undertaker that is no longer in business. Good luck. In Maryland Marriages 1634-1777, p.155...there is ROGERS, Edward, 15 May 1722, Hannah DUFFEY source: 3-KE-315 (Kent County, St. Pauls Parish, copy at Maryland Historical Society) Is this marriage too early for your Edward #2? According to Old Kent: The Eastern Shore of Maryland by George A. Hanson, there was an Edward Rogers who served on a jury in Kent County 17 April 1694 (p.324). An Edward Rogers was chosen a church warden 18 April 1704 in St. Pauls Parish (p.349) The other mention of an Edward Rogers is in the legal documents section of the book "Old Kent" p.212 March 1, 1655 "whereas a Warrant was lately issued forth agst Edward Rogers for his personal appearance at this Court; to answer his breach of an Act of Assemblie ........The court doth order ...Tho. Hynson, high sheriff for the countie shall pay the fine exprest in the afforsed Act with costs of suite." Since you asked about an unknown Rogers, you probably already have the Thomas Hynson, John Hynson, Elizabeth Hynson Rogers information from Maryland Genealogies.
