I was home last month and found this. Roda P Robeson, died at her home near Avilton, MD., A pril 18, 1901, aged 85 years, 11 months and 1 day. Mrs. Robeson had been a great sufferer for over two years with that dread disease, cancer. (Graphic details of death omitted.) Since last December she had been unconscious much of the time. But thanks be to our kind Father in Heaven He has called her spirit home and her pain and trouble is past. She was the widow of William Robeson deceased and had been a widow 33 years. Her maiden name was Preston. She was born in Vale Summit, Md., and moved with her husband to the old homestead where she died, having lived there over 70 years. She was one of the pioneer members of the Dunkard church in Garrett Co., Md. She was loved and honored by all who knew her. The funeral services were conducted at the home (now occupied by her son, John Robeson) by Eld. W. A. Gaunt of Salisbury, Pa., after which her remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground on the farm. (From Welfley Obituary Scrapbook, Meyersdale Library, Meyersdale, PA) Note: The Dunkard Church is the Church of the Brethern. The "family burying ground on the farm" is the Robeson Cemetery - Pea Ridge Road. Can someone tell me where Vale Summit is??
