August 6, 1936 - The Republican Levi Resh, a well known farmer, and life-long resident of the Bittinger community died early Monday morning, July 27th, at the age of 74 years. His death was due to a complication of ailments, and he had been ill for many months. Mr. Resh was a highly respected and prosperous farmer, having owned and operated one of the finest farms in this section. His wife, the former Anna Wiley, and seven children survive him. One brother, Simon Resh, near Jennings, Md., and a number of grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held on Wednesday from the Bittinger Lutheran Church. October 31, 1936 - The Republican Walter C. Ready - After being ill with heart trouble for a few weeks, Mr. Ready died Tuesday morning December 29th at two o'clock. He was born near Petersburg, W. Va., his parents being Jacob and Mary Ready, and after living some years in Piedmont, Mr. Ready came here about 30 years ago as telegraph operator for the B & O and continued in that position until his recent illness. Besides his wife, who was formerly Miss Martha Custer, Mr. Ready is survived by one son, Roland, and a daughter, Mrs. Albert Schrock, also one brother Fred of North Tonowanda, N. Y., and a sister Mrs. Harry Jones of Keyser, W. Va. Funeral services conducted by Rev. David Trimble and Rev. C. A. Shilke of Oakland and Rev. W. H. Gilmore of the M. E. Church were held at the home this afternoon at two thirty o'clock, followed by interment in the Oakland Cemetery. December 31, 1936 - The Republican Mrs. Louis Ross - Mrs. Jenny Ethel Steward Ross died Wednesday, December 23rd, at her home in Jennings. She suffered a heart attack while engaged in her usual household duties and death came almost instantaneously. Mrs. Ross was born October 18, 1893 and was 43 years of age at the time of her demise. She was the wife of Louis Ross, who is well known in this vicinity. The couple have lived near here since their marriage about twenty years ago. Surviving are her husband and seven sons. George Ross, who is employed at the Green Lantern Inn on the National Highway, Louis, Clark, Reed, Bruce, Joseph, and Patrick Ross, at home. She is also survived by one brother, Wilbur Steward, of Piedmont, W. Va., and five sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Brown, of Cumberland, Mrs. Cletis Rogers, of Burlington, W. Va., Mrs. John Smith, of Westernport, Mrs. A. P. Hoffa and Mrs. Robert Showdershelt, of Barton, Md. Rev. S. D. Sigler conducted funeral services at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at the! home. Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery. William Wiley, Fay Miller, Christian Yommer and John Yommer were pallbearers. William Winterberg, local undertaker, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
