I had another individual, this one a woman; whose age varied by 20 years over 4 censuses and there was no question the records referred to the same woman. Possibilities? Mrs. Paugh gave the census data and wasn't proud of being married to a man so much older than she was. The 1870 and 1880 census both indicate she was illiterate and possibly she didn't honestly know how old she was. The "4" where Philip's age is given as "41" is sloppy. It could have been the census taker intended "71", but his 7's were clearly legible on the previous page. It's also possible someone other than the parents gave the census taker the information. Could have happened for any reason. I don't think there's any doubt but but this is the same Elizabeth (McRobie) Paugh the whole way through all 4 censuses though; and that they had no son Isaac or Isaac Allen Paugh. It's not possible to be certain, but 3 of the 4 census indicate Elizabeth was born in MD. It doesn't appear she was a daughter of Elisha D. McRobie born sometime between 1786 and 1791, either.
