    3. Sam, Sorting out the Paugh family is a great contribution to western Maryland family history. While you are checking Paughs, may I ask that one more be checked? My ancestors include Joseph William Warnick (born about 1840) and his wife Sarah Catherine Paugh (born about 1840. A Bible record from Joseph William's grandmother lists Sarah Catherine's birth as May 19, 1840, but because that record was made many years after Sarah Catherine's birth; I consider the birth year less than totally reliable.). The Warnick couple spent their adult lives on Backbone Mountain a few miles west of Bloomington. Joseph William Warnick grew up in this same area, but I don't have any information where Sarah Catherine was raised. I have lots of information about their descendants, but have always been unsure about Sarah's parents, as these are all the clues I have to go on. Is Sarah Catherine Paugh included in your account of the Paugh family? Thanks. Walt Warnick

    3. Hello Walt: I'm really not too involved with the Paughs. I mostly just collect census records and save them in PAF with the hope that someday I'll find something of use to myself or someone else. Every now and then I'll come across a "puzzle" someone is trying to solve and see if I have anything of use. Same thing with the McRobies. I've saved some census data I've run across and occasionally get involved. I only have 1 Paugh and one McCrobie who were related through marriage. While working with the census, I try to figure out where people were living, but it's often difficult or impossible. Pat Thompson graciously sent me a copy of the Paugh family history a year or two ago and I use that occasionally with other stuff, but I'm no expert on the Paughs or McRobies, by any means; and I have little on the Warnicks. I do have this from your website- "Walt Warnick's Western Maryland Family History Pages" http://users.erols.com/ashlie/WARNICKS.HTM "The Pioneers Joseph and Sarah Warnick of Western Maryland" "In 1860, five of William and Catherine Warnick's grandchildren were living with them: Susan and Jane Warnick, children of son Joseph......" Is this Joseph W. "Elbow" Warnick b. 1827 the one who married Sarah Catharine Paugh? I don't have a spouse for him; daughters Susan S. and Jane. Have you found any census records for Joseph William and Sarah Paugh? I found "Elbow"'s father William in District 4 in 1860 (page 255) but nothing after that. District 4 is pretty big in 1870 to go through page by page, but it can be done. Also, if they lived a few miles west of Bloom- ington, they may have been counted in the Swanton District, since they redrew the boundary lines every ten years. I have a Sarah Paugh b. about 1839, daughter of Joseph H. Paugh & Malinda (unknown). A Sarah b. in Ohio about 1841; one born in VA about 1845 and several others born various years. Nothing to connect them to the Warnicks, though.
