    3. Hello Carolyn: I have Levi Sweitzer married to "Jane" in the 1860 census, who I presume to be Mary Jane Bittinger. I have Levi's parents as Jacob Sweitzer, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Burbach. This information comes from the Poorbaugh (Burbach & other variations) family history: "...Jacob SWEITZER b. 04/18/1779 probably in Brothers Valley Twp., Bedford Co., now Somerset Co., Pa., d. 1856, son of Jacob and Barbara SWEITZER (Footnote 5- Laurel Messenger, published by Somerset Co. Genealogical and Historical Society. (The issue that information appeared in isn't given.) "They both worshipped at Mull's German Reformed Church where Jacob, her husband, at age 20 was confirmed on 04/21/1799." Levi Sweitzer. had a brother Daniel. Poorbaugh" gives his date of birth Oct. 20, 1824. Their oldest brother, According to "Poorbaugh", page 80, was George Sweitzer. On page 81, 3.10 George Sweitzer, 2. 2, 1,, was a farmer in Alleghany & Southampton townships, Somerset Co., Pa. until sometime in the 1860's as he wasn't in the 1870 census for this county, or in the Allegany Co., Md. (census). He may have moved west or into West Virginia." Same page are his children including 4.51 "Daniel James", b. ca 1836. For him it says: "Married a Maryland girl and farmed there into the 1870's, then may have moved into West Virginia where son Daniel was living when he married." "b. ca 1836 in Allegheny Twp., Somerset Co.,, Pa., m. ca 1857 to Isabella (?), b. ca 1838 in Md." Does that sound like your Daniel? He had a son Daniel Morrell who lived in Eglon, W. V., according to "Poorbaugh". Sam SHUPE@citcom.net wrote: > Sam, > Do you have anything further on the Switzer name? ---Levi's father??? > etc.?? 2. Hi Sam, This is truly a bucket of worms. ; ) The Poorbaugh info is likely info that they picked up from a post (by me) on the i-net. Inadvertantly, I supplied their writers with more info on "my" Daniel Switzer and my Switzer family was taken as a connection to theirs and added to their tree in the book. <sigh> I don't know what info they had prior to my lst post. They would not correspond with me after I politely questioned the connection. Right now I don't have conclusive evidence that my Daniel belongs in their tree. The passage quoted, below, has errors. It is evidentally my Daniel & Isabella, but, they married and lived in Md. for a time (src. census) and Daniel was a "drover" (src. census). They moved to Tunnelton later and he is listed as "teamster" in that census. Eventually they settled in Eglon, Pres. Co., WV, and Daniel owned quite a bit of land (enough to give 3 or 4 of their children farms) and Daniel was also a logger. Isabella was a Custer (of David & Margaret (Stark) Custer. And, yes, they did have a son named Daniel Morrell Switzer who lived in Eglon. The "b. Allegheny Twp." is news to me. The most I have is "Pa." from the census----I suspect it was Somerset Co., but have no proof. A Rizer Switzer was living with or next door to Daniel & Isabella in the early census and Rizer was b. Somerset Co. (src. Rizer's Civil War Pension, Dayton, Ohio). He could have been a brother OR cousin perhaps. > Same page are his children including 4.51 "Daniel James", b. ca 1836. > For him it says: > > "Married a Maryland girl and farmed there into the 1870's, then may > have moved into West Virginia where son Daniel was living when he > married." > "b. ca 1836 in Allegheny Twp., Somerset Co.,, Pa., m. ca 1857 to > Isabella (?), b. ca 1838 in Md." > Too bad that these things happen. It is soooo important to document when a published report is planned. I would be happy to find him in the Poorbaugh tree, if it were well documented. Thanks for your help! I think that's highly unlikely, since: "The Burbach-Poorbaugh-Purbaugh Family in America 1771-1974" Compiled by Treva E. Calder, Historian, 1976- was written about 15 years before there was an internet. The supplement was written about the time the internet came into (if not existence), narrow usage.
