    3. >From Carol at the museum: Kempton: According to letter written to Miss West (Elizabeth, I assume), dated December 18, 1938, giving information from Mr. L. N. Duling, who had been in Kempton since 1915 and worked in the store there, Kempton was named for Kempton Adams who was a stock holder in the Co. It had been a town for 25 years (in 1938). the company began to sink the shaft in 1913, built the store and began the houses. The first settlers were similar to rest of County with a few Italians and a great many slaves. Mr. Eli Mosser, a man well up in the eighties (in 1938) was the first man to live in Kempton. The mines were opened for work late in 1913. The store, post office and open house were on the West Virginia side of the line while the mines and all the houses were on the Maryland side. While traveling around the corner stone one could walk in four counties and two states. "(That is something not every small town can brag about.)" Hope some of this is helpful or at least interesting. Connie History is preserved through knowledge shared
