What a terrible speller! Make that Andre-W! By the way, Rachel and William are the parents of Charles Edward McCrobie who is married to Savilla Rodeheaver Sines (X-wife of Elijah, - his first... if you watched the posts), not the 2nd wife, who's grave is in your message. SMALL WORLD, huh? Now - I just HAVE to ask: Is Charles buried there, too? his firdt wife is Rheula Belle Sines (1st cousin 1once removed from Elijah Sines - descendants of Major Henry Sines) - this is from Kathleen Fitzgerald, posted earlier here. -------Original Message------- From: MDGARRET-L@rootsweb.com Date: Wednesday, July 16, 2003 17:24:47 To: MDGARRET-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDGARRET] Sines - McCrobie (Rodeheaver + Friend) Thanks, PAT - for the Sines - and the McRobie! Rachel Ellen Fortney Lewis is the wife of wife of William Andres McRobie - b 2 Mar 1849 d 18 Sep 1931. I know he is buried in Garrett Co - is he next to Rachel? -------------- This may only add to the confusion, however, the only Wm. McCROBIE I find is, McCrobie, William 1845-1931 buried beside Meleta, 1924-1929. Buried at Sang Run Cemetery. I have no idea if this could be the same Wm., and I only mention it here because of the DOD. As for McROBIE, listed are Wm. C.; Wm. H.; Wm. T.; but no Wm. A. under either surname spelling. Pat-T
Pat! Confusion? or maybe NEW clue? I sure don't have any wife for any of my Mc's named Meleta. But this one would fit because of the DOD... That is a strange one for me. Are you looking at the DAR book? What abt females named Mc? They could be Mrs? I have never heard of a Meleta, though. William Andrew McRobie is the one widely known as Uncle Billie. He is from Allegany (now Garrett), the son of Andrew McCroby and S--- he was married to Rachel Ellen Fortney Lewis on 14 Sep 1870 and Cerise Hardesty abt 1895. He has 7 children born between 1872 and 1892 (Robert Thomas, Charles Edward (of much late discussion on this list), Asa Clyde, Ina, George W, Samuel Riley and John Henry - I have dates and spouses if you want them) As for the other Williams/Wm's, this is what I have compared to the ones you mention: Wm C - William Cheston McRobie, born 7 Mar 1907 died Oakland 11 Jul 1974 - hus of Esperence Ashby, son of Joseph Henry McRobie and Clara N Freeland. Who is buried next to him? Wm H - I have 2, father and son, plus 2 more to consider William H McRobie, born Abt 1867/68, hus of Allie Nair, son of William P McCrobie and Sarah J Manley - William H McRobie, born 3 Jul 1898 died 1962, son of the Above. I don't have a wife for him - William Hampton McRobie, born 30 Mar 1840 (Hardy Co WV) died 2 Aug 1913 (Morgantown), but buried Oakland. Hus of Margaret Ellen Miller, son of John W McCrobie and Margaret Mary Murphy - William Henry Harrison McRobie, born 2 Jul 1891 (Garrett) died 24 Aug 1977, buried Oakland. Son of John W McRobie (diff than above) and Harriet E Smith, hus of Bertha Estella Wilt. Wm T William Taylor McRobie, born Aug 1890 (MD) died 1966 (buried Garrett). Hus of Ethel M or Winnie True, son of Joseph F McRobie and Stella Frances McRobie. For the spelling McCrobie: William P McCrobie, born abt 1821 (MD), buried in Garrett, Hus of Sarah J Manley / and Lucinda. Son of Elisha DeWitt McRobie and Miss Furley. William McCrobie, born abt 1921, Preston WV. son of Asa Clyde McRobie and Bessie Belle Lewis, no wife is shown. Will A McCrobie, born 28 Mar 1893, Preston WV, son of Robert McCrobie and Mary. No wife is shown. WIlliam McCrobie, born abt 1811 (MD) died bef 1900, hus of Sarah Paugh, son of William McCrobie and Mary And of course: William McCrobie - 1761-1834, the founder of the family in MD. I don't know if he would be in the book or not. Hus of Mary PLUS: William S McCroby, born 2 Jan 1925 died 10 Oct 1990 in WV. he is unlinked to anyone. William McRobey - nothing known Actually, this note has taken quite a while to write, and I just went and looked at what it says about Uncle Billie in the Sanders book, here it is: "The McCrobie/McRobie/McCroby Family 1761-1996" William Andrew McCrobie, b 2 Mar 1849, Allegany Co, MD, d 18 Sep 1931, m 1, 14 Sep 1870 to Rachel Fortney Lewis, b 2 Jan 1848, d 5 Oct 1892. Rachel is the d of Daniel and Elizabeth Lewis. William m 2, Cerise Dodge, b Apr 1859. As mentioned before, William was considered an "Ace" when it came to getting logs out of the woods. A V-shaped trough was built of logs. The logs were slid "up and down" the hills to the camp for transporting to the mill. This was done with horses or mules which were hitched in tandem. Sometimes as many as six horses or mules would be needed. The skill was in having complete control of the team, and may I add, the skilled use of a blacksnake William and Rachel farmed in the Swallow Hills area of Maryland. Rachel Lewis McCrobie is buried in the Taylor-Sines Cemetery near Swallow Falls Park, Garrett Co, MD. William A McCrobie is buried in the Sang River Cemetery, Sang Run Road, Garrett Co, MD (page 7) SO PAT, it looks like the one buried next to Melta IS Uncle Billie... now who the heck is Meleta? -------Original Message------- From: MDGARRET-L@rootsweb.com Date: Thursday, July 17, 2003 06:59:37 To: MDGARRET-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDGARRET] Sines - McCrobie (Rodeheaver + Friend) Rachel Ellen Fortney Lewis is the wife of wife of William Andres McRobie - b 2 Mar 1849 d 18 Sep 1931.
