We made our own syrup with brown sugar, adding maple flavoring.We used it with homemade butter. Buying real maple syrup is very expensive if you are using a lot of it. Feeding 7 people six or more buckwheat cakes apiece 7 days a week all winter long used a lot of syrup, puddin'', gravy and sausage as well as eggs to sandwich between the cakes.
