I just think that, like many other men of history, he had a sense of what was happening from his own point of view. I recently read that either Daniel Boone or another prominent man of the time said that it was not one man's effort, and that most all of the men who were "trailblazing" were of similar nature and talents and were all worthy of respect. I admire a man who, even though he may have been a cut above the rest, retains a sense of modesty combined with reality, and gives others their due. I really must borrow that book, or I will never know what I am speaking about. --WebTV-Mail-26282-787 Content-Disposition: Inline Content-Type: Message/RFC822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Received: from smtpin-3103.bay.webtv.net (209.240.204.213) by storefull-2351.public.lawson.webtv.net with WTV-SMTP; Wed, 19 Nov 2003 18:56:10 -0800 (PST) Received: from lists2.rootsweb.com (lists2.rootsweb.com [207.40.200.39]) by smtpin-3103.bay.webtv.net (WebTV_Postfix+sws) with ESMTP id CE5D6FE6A; Wed, 19 Nov 2003 18:55:56 -0800 (PST) Received: (from slist@localhost) by lists2.rootsweb.com (8.12.8/8.12.8) id hAK2mExQ025171; Wed, 19 Nov 2003 19:48:14 -0700 Resent-Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2003 19:48:14 -0700 X-Original-Sender: Pat125@erols.com Wed Nov 19 19:48:13 2003 MIME-Version: 1.0 Message-Id: <3FBC2B6C.000009.03316@S0028482859> Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2003 21:48:12 -0500 (Eastern Standard Time) Content-Type: Text/Plain X-Mailer: IncrediMail (2001184) From: "Pat Thompson" <Pat125@erols.com> References: <29176-3FBC14C1-218@storefull-2358.public.lawson.webtv.net> X-FID: PLAINTXT-NONE-0000-0000-000000000000 X-Priority: 3 Old-To: <MDGARRET-L@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [MDGARRET] Meschach Browning Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-MIME-Autoconverted: from quoted-printable to 8bit by lists2.rootsweb.com id hAK2mDUL025146 Resent-Message-ID: <dPY4zB.A.GJG.utCv_@lists2.rootsweb.com> To: MDGARRET-L@rootsweb.com Resent-From: MDGARRET-L@rootsweb.com Reply-To: MDGARRET-L@rootsweb.com X-Mailing-List: <MDGARRET-L@rootsweb.com> archive/latest/7490 X-Loop: MDGARRET-L@rootsweb.com Precedence: list Resent-Sender: MDGARRET-L-request@rootsweb.com X-Brightmail: Message tested, results are inconclusive Delores wrote: Pat, Do you think John Ashbury is even aware that what wasthen Frederick Co. is now Garrett, and that present Frederick Co. can lay no claim to Browning? ------------- I am not sure if today's Frederick County can't lay claim to Meshack Browning? It is my understanding that Meshack was born near Browningsville, or what is today the area near Damsacus, Maryland. Did he do everything he said he did in his book? I am not sure, but he left a history of the area (for the time) that very few others thought to do. I don't recall reading anything either about him helping Washington, but I would have to dig through my files and see ........... who was it that Meshack took into his home, caring for them until their death? Maybe he was a little self serving, but still a very interesting character of the times, don't you think?
