    1. Re: [MDGARRET] DVD STORAGE for VCR tapes
    2. I have several VHF tapes full of wonderful family history. We were planning to buy "Snappy" software to enable taking snap shots off of the tapes. There was a way you could freeze frame the tape and capture the picture. You could also move it frame by frame to get the best shot. I went as far as purchasing a small color TV with VCR for my office so I could do the transfer, but we never went any further than checking on the software. I think the software is still around; however, I'm going to call an audio/visual company tomorrow (if I remember) to see what capabilities are out there. I will get back to the list with any information I'm able to glean. I know there is equipment (a peddle) and software you can buy in order to transcribe WAV files directly from your CPU. That's how they transcribe video conferences. We opted to buy a digital camera this year even though current camcorders have a snapshot capability. Problem is the resolution is not as good as the camera. We can copy the sound track from DVDs on our CD read/write, but that's no help to capture the photos. If you could freeze frame from the DVD, that would be optimal. Maybe I'll get some good scoop tomorrow. I bet, if the technology isn't here yet, it's in the planning stages.
