    3. Harriet, I am reading the book now, and although he was born in Frederick Co, that part of the county is now Montgomery Co. Page viii says, "After they reurned from this campaign Joshua Browning settled at the village of Damascus, Montgomery Co., where he married Nancy Farmer, who was the mother of Meshach Browning...." His father died when Meshach was 2 weeks old. If I am incorrect in assuming that Damascus was at that time a part of Frederick Co., I hope somebody will correct me. Again, I am not aware when Montgomery Co. was created. Was it created from only Frederick Co., or was part of Prince Georges Co. taken? If Connie is out there reading this, she probably has the dates at hand. The date of Meshach's birth was 1781.

    3. Montgomery County, MD, was created in 1776, thus predating Meshach Browning's birth. Damascus is in Montgomery County, a few miles from the border with Frederick County. I live 10 miles away from Damascus. Just west of Damascus, essentially right at the Frederick County line, is the tiny town of Browningsville, MD. It is not much more than a crossroad. There is a connection between the founders of this town and Meshach. Curiously, the ancestors of the numerous Harvey family of western Maryland hailed from an area a mile or so south of Browningsville. The Harveys left Montgomery County sometime between 1794 and 1802, first settling in Hampshire County in what is now WV. 3. James Fitzwater was her great uncle and say he IS buried at the Rose Hill Cemetery Swanton MD. --------- Mary Jane, I am interested in this James Fitzwater. Was he married to Ada Bell Howell? My g, g, grandmother, Anna JUNKINS' (1822-????) father was John W. Junkins and he was married twice. 1.) Ruth Fitzwater and 2.) Elizabeth Anderson. I need to find parents for both wives. I believe someone was looking at the possibility of Ruth Fitzwater having a brother named James. The time frame would have been the late 1700's. James A. Fitzwater, buried at Rose Hill was b. 1877, thus not fitting the time frame. Might your grandmother know of any of James A.'s ancestors? Thanks, Pat-T
