Art, If you stop in Friendsville today, you would be well advised to bring your lunch. They no longer have a restaurant in town. Some people buy sandwiches, etc. from the general grocery store, and some buy the same from the gas station just north of town on route 42. An "Oater" is a western movie, so-called because of the horses. The young boy in my story was a Sisler, and was descended from John Friend, Sr, John Friend, Jr., Cornelius Ward Friend, John H. Friend, Clarissa Elsie Friend (called Elsie) and Alverta Frazee. I follow the same line. If you descend from John Friend, Sr., I hope you have stopped at his gravesite at the edge of Friendsville. If you are there when the Museum/Library is open, you must visit. The upstairs library has an enormous amount of genealogical material. Check out the internet site for the Friend Family Association of America, if you have not already done so.
Dolores, I wonder if you knew my former school teacher, Everett Friend, who lived in Friendsville? Jan
See that's my problem, I know my Great Uncle Charles was trying to find out for 70 years how his mother was related to the Friends as they all said she was from the Friendsville Friends. I know French Canadian ancestors back to some who sailed with Champlain in the 1630s and I can't figure out who my ggm's family were. I have made a lot more progress in the last year than my Great Uncle did but mostly from the stories he told me over the years being based in fact. He 14 months ago at 99 3/4. He was 3 when his mother died in 1906. I just wish he was around now so I could tell him I found 2 of his cousins in Tunnelton and had coconut cake and coffee on their porch this summer, and now I am sharing stories with another cousin in Oklahoma about his Aunt who lived 2 doors away in Tunnelton in 1910. In the next couple weeks though I have 3 wills and 3 civil war pension files coming in that could tell a lot, nothing, or just that one little clue that unravels everything. I am rea! lly having fun with all the nice people on this list and will have 15 more pages of baptism records to post and more in the next days. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
