    1. [MDGARRET] Recent Obit - Lois Hedrick
    2. Hi Denise, It is very sad about the Lois Hedrick that died in the Cumberland area. I didn't have a clue this was on the Garrett site. I had an accummulation of about 200 emails while I was vacationing and had limited access to my email. I had only been responding to emails pertaining to stops and planned meetings along the way. If I had seen the Lois Hedrick in the subject line, you can believe I would've checked it out :-) Do you still have the obit. I would be interested in knowing more. Our travels took us to PA; Frederick, MD; Falls Church, VA; Winchester, VA, Garrett County, MD (the 15th-19th), Alliance, Uniontown and Akron, OH (20th-29). We came through the Cumberland Pass on Sept. 15th and ran smack dab into a downpour that forced us off the highway into a rest center for over a half hour. After the rain slowed, the sun came out and we continued our scenic drive to Garrett County . . . saw several deer with their little ones along the roadway. What a beautiful site! We sat out Isabel Thursday evening (Sept. 18th) at the Holiday Inn in Grantsville after a nice dinner out with cousins (and running around in the pre-Isabel downpour). While the cousins were very alarmed about the approaching storm, potential power outs and property damage, it wasn't as bad as we had thought it would be. Isabel did however flood the area at Hwy 419 and Dung Hill Road (near Jennings) where I wanted to go in search of the old horse and buggy road to the bridge where my great uncle Frederick Hetrick was drowned 10/13/90 (at 22 years old). He had attempted to cross the bridge there that was covered in a flooding of the Casselman, obviously a yearly occurance. Bob Brenneman said some of the old road was probably still there where the flood plane was overgrown. Although the road was flooded and blocked off, it didn't ruin our dinner plans at the Penn Alps Restaurant Friday nite with the Hetrick and Beitzel cousins, some of which I had just met for the first time earlier that week. Beulah Miller braved the storm warnings and drove in early from the Cumberland area to join us. Was very disappointed that plans to meet Beverly Walter Railey and Sam Bowser didn't pan out due to car trouble and the weather situation. Got pictures of: (1) the Peterson Tollhouse (Addison) where my g-grandfather Samuel Slabaught was once a tollkeeper; (2) my 5th g-grandfather, Peter Livingood's Conestoga wagon at the Springs Museum; (3) the Hetrick Road sign on Negro Mountain (Rt 40W & right on Zehner Rd). We drove up there in the fog our last morning in the area; also to the pioneer graveyard in Salisbury, MD on Ord St. (just one block from my cousin Rhea's home). (4) Pioneer graveyard photos as follows: • John [Lightfoot] Durst's grave: "John Durst, Pennsylvania, PVT 1 Rifle Bat, MD Militia, War of 1812, 1766-1840" • Solomon Durst (died Oct. 28, 1857, aged 60 yrs, 6 mos & 2 (or 3) days • Lydia wife of S Durst (Sept 7, 1800-died Aug 21, 1847) • Christian C. Livengood (1803-1889), Aged 86 years • Solomon Glotfelty "Aged 80. 5th of Feb. Died the 18th Day Aug 1818" • Mary Glotfelty "Died 11/30/1861 aged 80 yrs, 4 mos & 21 days" • Henry Glotfelty. On Henry's stone: "In memory of Henry Glotfelty. Born Nov 4, 1779, died Aug 26, 1836, aged 56 years 9 mos & 22 days. Boast not another day Nor call tomorrow thine Thou mays't be snatched away by sudden death like mine" Last but not least (5) the Solomon Glotfelty barn on Greenville Rd (Salisbury, PA) that was built in 1818. Solomon's log house was moved and retored at Penn Alps. Thanks for your concern. I'm alive and fairly well in Sacramento, CA . . . Lois Hetrick Stewart

    3. lois it sounds like mother nature gave you a hard time! hope in spite of the weather your trip was enjoyable. sandy and i are busy teaching, taking spanish and german classes, and getting ready for the winter. we spent a few days in phoenix last week and fell in love with it. there is a 90% chance we will move there in the next year. we are talking to an agent tomorrow about selling our house. we will never get the money back that we have spent on the house, but we are not happy here and feel it is time to move on. are richard and his family back to normal? i guess with all of the problems they have had that he hasnt devoted much time to family history.of course i am not a good one to take about family history since i have been retired for over three years and still have tons of info to sort and get current. shannon took a leave from her job to try teaching. so far she really loves it. i hope she knows what she is doing because it will cost her a big big pay cut if she decides to stay with teaching. our son jimmy is still in atlanta and is studying to be a chef. he loves the food resturant stuff. hey am i rambling? probably so! take care and all of our love. jim and sandy --- TRPLUS@aol.com wrote: > Hi Denise, > > It is very sad about the Lois Hedrick that died in > the Cumberland area.
