The recent discussion about the Michael Beegly farm cemetery reminded me that I don't think I ever posted information I recorded in the Philip Bittner cemetery, which is near the Beeghly cemetery. Many of these people are not included in Wayne Bittinger's book on the Bittner, Bittingers. Most were probably related to the Bittners in some way. Maybe someone will find a name of interest. This cemetery is located about 2 miles northeast of Meyersdale. Coming out of Meyersdale, Berkley Flat Road ends at a "T" at (I think) Beachdale Road. Just before the "T" is the dairy farm of Harold Saylor. Mr. Saylor's farm takes in part of the old John Bauser farm (but not the cemetery) and the Philip Bittner homeplace, and cemetery. The Bauser farm cemetery has been plowed under; some of the stones appear to have been stacked in a corner of a fence row on an adjoining farm. The Bittner cemetery is behind Mr. Saylor's farm house. "The Bittinger, ..... Families and Their Kin" by Wayne Bittinger, Page 10- "Children of Philip and Juliana Philippina Bittner" (13) Samuel P. Bittner (born about 1800); died July 30, 1872). Married Catharine ----- born about 1807. Footnote 37- Harold Saylor farm cemetery; 1850 census, Somerset County. Page 9 says Philip Bittner died in March or April of 1816 and his youngest son, Samuel P. Bittner; bought out his brother's and sister's share of the homeplace between 1827 & 1842. Juliana possibly lived out the rest of her days with Samuel P. on the homeplace. Most likely (this is my own comment), Philip and Juliana are also buried in this cemetery. ................ The Philip Bittner cemetery on the Harold Saylor farm as I found it in the mid 1990's- "S P Bittner Died July 30 1872 age 72 Years" (1800) "Catharine Bittner Wife of S P Bittner Died Mar 30 1871 Aged 61 Yrs 11 Mos 20 Dys" (Calculates to Apr. 10, 1809) "Catharine Bittner Daughter of Samuel P Bittner Died Aug 9 1847 aged 7 Yrs 2 Mos" (Calculates to June 9, 1840) "Peter Bittner Died Mar 25 1887 aged 61 Yrs 7 Mos 7 Dys" (Calculates to Aug. 18, 1825) (possibly a son of Samuel P. Bittner- my guess) "Elizabeth Wife of Peter Bittner Died July 8 1878 Aged 70 Yrs 2 Mos 3 Dys" (Calculates to May 5, 1828) "Peter Cambert Died Apr 24 1886 Abt 86 Yrs" (ca 1800) "Hannah Wife of Peter Died Oct 14 1860 Aged Abt 47 Yrs" (ca 1813) * Regarding "Cambert". Not a name I've found in Somerset County. My guess would be that they may have been Samuel P. Bittner's in laws. The closest name I've found is "Kammer" (Kramer in parenthesis), Maria Philippina, wife of Abraham Horner. (Nov. 1984 issue of "Laurel Messenger") The Horner farm was very near the Bittner farm. -SJB "Charles F Son of J L and M B Bittner 1899-1900" "Edward R son of J L & M B Bittner 1901-1901" "Elias Bowman 1828-1884" "Marian Bowman 1860-1864" "John R. Leazier Born Aug 29 1899 Died Apr 2 1900 aged 7 Mos 4 Dys" "James Alex Miller Born Aug 10 1882 Died Mar 11 1896" "Robert Roger Miller Born May 14 1888 Died May 17 1888" .............
