Hi there, I would think there would have been more than one Midwife in Garrett county during the mid-1900s. My husband's great-grandmother was the Mid-wife who delivered him & his siblings in Upshur Co. WV and she was only one of several Midwives who served the women of one particular district in that county. I'm sure this would have been true in Garrett Co. MD as well. Even with a car a Midwife could only be expected to serve a certain number of women within a certain distance from her home. . As someone else has already suggested, the name of the Midwife who delivered your sisters would be on your sisters' birth registrations. If a Midwife did in fact handle the delivery, she was usually the one who also registered the birth for the family. . On my husband's birth registration, (filed by his great-grandmother) her name is noted in the "The attending Physician or Midwife" name space. It may be worded differently in Garrett Co. MD but there should be a similair place on their registration forms.. . I am searching for information regarding my sisters Betty Ann Kuhn and Joy Lee Kuhn. They were born by a midwife in Vindex Maryland. Any help would be greatly appreciated. > > Mary Jane Kuhn Warnick Shepherd > ====================================== > Looking for your Garrett County ancestors? 1930's, 1940's many times a family member or a neighbor delivered the baby. My wife's grandmother delivered her with the help of a neighbor in Garrett County. Ken
