Garrett County began a county separated from Allegangy County, Maryland in 1872, all marriages prior to that date would be recorded in Cumberland, All. Co., MD Garrett County 'Glades Star' published Thirty Years of Garrett County Marriage Records (1872-1902). I have a copy and would be glad to check any marriages in that time frame. fdb
Thank you so much for your offer, but the marriage I need is in late 1859 or early 1860, and there doesn't seem to be any list that has them on it. Family hearsay says Barney DEWITT was a Circuit-riding Methodist minister (his brother, Peter DEWITT, Jr. was a minister also.) Therefore, I think church records are my best bet. Does anyone know a good resource for those? ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, November 18, 2006 2:48 PM Subject: Re: [MDGARRET] Marriage records for 1850-1860 > Garrett County began a county separated from Allegangy County, Maryland in > 1872, all marriages prior to that date would be recorded in Cumberland, > All. > Co., MD > Garrett County 'Glades Star' published Thirty Years of Garrett County > Marriage Records (1872-1902). Looked up Barney in History of Western Maryland, only listing was as settlers located in 1788 upon the lands lying in Maryland west of Fort Cumberland.
