I grew up not far from mt. davis(pa) and there are many stories of things happening on the mountain and I remember correctly there is one about a missing girl and one about a wild child, the story of baughman rocks, etc. if you do mean this area, contact Cynthia at [email protected] she's the meyersdale library archivist. Shes a great lady and I work with her alot. she has a lot of materials about the area. hope that helps a little. okay the story of baughman rocks goes something like this.. there was this man who lived and farmed on mt davis. He raised sheep and he had a son who helped to take of them. well this man had a temper and sometimes took it out on his son. one day his son lost a sheep and he got very angry. He beat the boy and told him not to come back until he found the sheep. the boy searched for the sheep but couldn't find it. here is where it gets a little vague. some say that boy fell down between these large limestone rocks and was bitten by a rattlesnake or broke his neck and died and others say the father in a rage beat the child to death and dumped his body in the rocks. either way the boy died and his body ended up in the rocks, but before anyone could get the body, the body disappeared and could not be found. some say the rocks are haunted now but who knows.. I do know I would never go there at night. you can visit the rocks yourself. just go up to mt davis towards the tower and baughman rocks is right across the road from it.. it's an awesome sight with the large rocks that you can walk on and peer down between the cracks just keep an eye out for snakes.
