Several years ago while working on the descendants of Bryan & Mary (...) Gainer who resided for a while in what is now Garret county I came across a Baker family among their daughter Margaret (Gainer) Ayers' family who was also linked to the Fazenbacker family. I have since lost the reference and cannot relocate the source of the information. The family had moved from Garret county to either Gilmer county, (now WV) or an adjacent county. Many of the children of George Gainer, a son of Bryan & Mary, and some of the children of Bryan Gainer, another son and of a daughter Elizabeth (Gainer) Sturm had also relocated to the Gilmer county area in the 1840 and subsequently. Can anyone give me leads of the Baker family associated with this family? Vashti Potter as also connected with the migration and her name appeared among many of the children of this Gainer clan. Thank you for any clues to get me reconnected to information on thie Baker and Fazenbacker connection. Nicholas Sturm (descendant of the ELizabeth (Gainer) mentioned)
Nicholas, I have extensive information about the Fazenbaker family, but I cannot make a firm connection with any of the people you name in your note. In the mid-1850s, a number of western Maryland families moved to what is now Calhoun County, West Virginia. The families included the surnames Barnes, Ayers, Kile and probably others. The Barnes families were descended from the Fazenbakers. It would be very helpful if you could provide a few more clues.
