Good for you, Sam, but remember that Ancestry now owns Rootsweb. Connie > > For my own part, I'm willing to share what I've found with anyone who cares to exchange information, but I have no intention of donating it to Ancestry.com for commercial purposes. > > Sam
Hi Connie: I belonged to and supported rootsweb several years before Ancestry.com bought them out. In the early years they were strictly a volunteer organization who put in a lot of long cold hours and their own money to allow folks like us with an interest in genealogy to communicate with each other. I had a bad feeling in my gut when they were forced to "partner" with Ancestry.com because they could no longer afford to buy new servers, etc. to keep up with the demand. I still have that feeling. I use Ancestry.com almost entirely for U. S. census data. I have found WW I & II Draft Registration card images to be useful If trying to place a male at a certain place and time, because even if they weren't called into service they still had to register for the draft. Beyond those two categories, I've found little of use on Ancestry.com over the several years I've been a member. Family trees placed on their website are pretty useless.
