Walt, ?Do you know anything about the old Warnick house that stands at "The Elbow". It? looks like there was an older part built of stone at the bottom with a full sized entrance door at street level. Above it looks like there was added on an 1870/80s (pretty fancy) style house above with a porch across the front above the lower entrance. It is built into the hill. This?must be?the place that Silas Warnick died from his death cert. Folks at the Allegany Hist Soc told me that the Elbow was where the polling place used to be too. There is a Warnick Cemetery on the hill behind the house but I couldn't find it. The house is standing but just barely. FYI, Wayne Bittinger's book reports that Mary Martha (Gilpin) Bittinger was born 7/30/1893. I have it from a number of sources that the maiden name of Mary Martha's mother was Mary Jane "Fazenbaker," rather than "Fletcher" as recorded in the obituary. Her father's name is variously reported as "Thomas" Gilpin as reported in the obituary, but also as "Thompson" Gilpin. There is a hollow off Maynardier Ridge Road near Bittinger, called Gilpin Hollow, which I believe was close by the Thompson Gilpin family home. With certainty, I know that the hollow and adjoining land came to be owned in later years by Maleta Butler, daughter of Thompson Gilpin and Mary Jane.
