Hi Listers,   My maternal grandmother, Julia, had children to two men, some ages don’t seem to be correct. My main questions surround the dates of a possible divorce or the death and burial place of John KOCH, my grandmother Julia’s, first husband (I do have a date from the family Bible that they were married) and the marriage to my grandfather Clarence William MILLER.   Our oral history says John died. However, one of my oldest cousins, says her mother told her that my Aunt Teresa said my grandmother Julia said to her “he (John) is dead to me.” It is interesting that Julia dutifully recorded her wedding date to John, the birth dates of all the children but never recorded John’s death and burial or a date of her second marriage.   After we put a reunion booklet together we started wondering???? All the KOCH children, including the boys, used the surname MILLER after John left the scene and passed it on when they married but my mother said her dad never adopted them.   These events happened in the 10 years between the 1910 and 1920 Censes in which the family had moved from Howard Co. to Garrett Co., MD. I believe the real story of John KOCH is buried somewhere in between those two MD counties.   Here’s all I know from family and Census records.   1.   1910 Census, Elkridge 1-Dist, Howard Co., MD John KOCH, age 43, b. abt. 1867 Germany (German Polish) d. ? in Howard Co. or Garrett Co. ? where buried?   m. Julia Marie ZELLMER(E), age 27, 23 Oct. 1900, b. 23 Dec. 1886 Germany (German Polish) d. 9 Jul 1941, in Altoona (rural), Blair Co., PA   Children: Teresa (Theresa) (Marie), 6; (Frances) Frank, 5; Agnes (Beatrice), 4; George (John), 2; Alice (Helen), 1 - all born in MD   2.   1920 Census, Kitzmillerville, Garrett Co., MD (town of Shallmar) Clarence W. (William) MILLER, age 38, b. 10 Apr 1892, Uniontown, PA, d. 16 Apr 1942 Altoona (rural), Blair Co., PA   married ? date ? place ? to Julia Marie Zellmer(e) KOCH, age 36 Children: Teresa (Theresa) (Marie), 16; (Frances) Frank , 15; Agnes (Beatrice), 12, George (John), 10; Alice (Helen), 9; Mary Jane, 5 - all born in MD   1930 Census, Cambria Township, Cambria Co., PA Now it gets crazy - My great grandfather’s name - Clarence William MILLER - is listed as head of household instead of Charles William MILLER and his age is listed at 36 instead of 48 - this makes no sense to me. Also, Julia, wife, is listed as age 42 and she would be 46.   Children remaining at home: Mary Jane, 15; Ida M (May), 10 (this is my mother born one month after the 1920 census); Margaret (Christina Marie), 6; Edna L (Louise), 5; Elizabeth (Viola), 3; James (R) , 2 - all were listed as born in PA, but Mary Jane and Ida were born in MD
