    3. Hoyes Mrs. Cornelius Savage, of Sang Run, died on Wednesday, after a long and painful illness, and was buried on Friday on the home place. She was a good neighbor, a kind and loving wife and a devoted mother. The Republican - July 1, 1897 Date of death: June 30, 1897 Having been slight notice of the death of Mrs. Mary Ann Savage, which occurred at her home near Sang Run, June 23, 1897, we deem it no more than just to speak of at least some of the good qualities of her life. Her age was above sixty-eight years. To all those who knew her she was a living epistle known and read by them. She was industrious, self-denying, charitable and kind to all, and ever ready and willing to lend a helping hand in every time of need. Being quiet, gentle, patient, forbearing and sympathetic, this good woman made no distinction among those she visited in doing them good; in visiting the sick, relieving the suffering, and distributing to needs and necessities, thus willing as it were, to sacrifice her own life for that of others. Her sorrowing children feel the heavy loss of a dear, devoted, kind and loving christian mother. Her husband preceded her to the spirit world over four years ago. She joined the Brethren or Dunkard Church about nine years ago, and until the time had lived a member of the M. E. Church. She bore her sickness with great christian fortitude, often saying that she was fully resigned to the will of the Lord. A few day before her death one of her daughters asked her if she should sing her a hymn, one she had composed, being thus: As fades the world from out my view, So fades within my breast its charms. To this she replied, "yes, yes, you know I always loved singing." Then proceeding till these lines were reached, "Tis heaven, O heaven, my soul delights, To view they glories all sublime. a saintly smile was seen to come over her face, and lifting up her feeble hands she clasped them together and looked upward as if already enjoying a foretaste of Heaven. Thus peacefully and serenely closed the life of a good woman. The funeral services were conducted by Elder T. W. Sines, from the text of her own selection, found in Rev. 21st chapter and 4th verse, after which her remains were interred on the home place beside those of her husband. Thus one by one fall the members of a family till all shall have crossed over; but a glorious reunion awaits the faithful. A FRIEND The Republican - July 15, 1897 Date of death: June 23, 1897 [Despite the different death dates noted; I believe both obituaries are for Mary Ann (Friend) Savage, wife of Cornelius Ward Savage]
