Swanton-Silas Edward Johnston, 77, died Wednesday at his farm home one and one-half miles east of North Glade following an illness of seven weeks. A farmer, he had resided near here for 65 years. He was born November 10, 1872, in Bedford Co. PA, a son of the late Paul and Matilda (Kinser) Johnston. He was a member of Swanton United Brethren Church. Besides his widow, the former Miss Rosa Ellen Sweitzer, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Walter Durst, Route 1, Somerset, PA, and Mrs. Claude Hetrick and Mrs. Walter Hetrick, Springs, PA; four sons, Earl Johnston, Arlie Johnston and James Johnston, Route 2, Swanton, and Frank Johnston, Route 1, Swanton; one brother, Henry Johnston, Cumberland; 30 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The body is at the residence. Services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at North Glade Methodist Church with Rev. Mr. Fike, pastor of the Crellin United Brethren Church, officiating.
