SWANTON-Earl Charles Johnston, 60, died Friday night while visiting friends at Cold Run, near Salisbury, PA. He resided here. A son of the late Silas and Rosie (Sweitzer) Johnston, he was born in Garrett County November 5, 1897. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Meadow Mountain, and had been employed by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad for 37 years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Margaret (Mellinger) Johnston, a son, Herschel Johnston, Baltimore; a daughter, Mrs. Ellen Friend, Swanton; three brothers, Frank Johnston, Swanton; Arlie Johnston, Akron, and James Johnston, Swanton; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Durst, of Pennsylvania; Mrs. Pearl Hetrick, Maple Glen, PA, and Mrs. Elsie Hetrick, Akron and three grandchildren. Services will be conducted tomorrow in the North Glade Lutheran Church by Rev. Robert Castle. Interment will be in the North Glade Cemetery. The body is at the residence. Cumberland Times Aug 10, 1958 Swanton-Silas Edward Johnston, 77, died Wednesday at his farm home one and one-half miles east of North Glade following an illness of seven weeks. A farmer, he had resided near here for 65 years. He was born November 10, 1872, in Bedford Co. PA, a son of the late Paul and Matilda (Kinser) Johnston. He was a member of Swanton United Brethren Church. Besides his widow, the former Miss Rosa Ellen Sweitzer, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Walter Durst, Route 1, Somerset, PA, and Mrs. Claude Hetrick and Mrs. Walter Hetrick, Springs, PA; four sons, Earl Johnston, Arlie Johnston and James Johnston, Route 2, Swanton, and Frank Johnston, Route 1, Swanton; one brother, Henry Johnston, Cumberland; 30 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The body is at the residence. Services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at North Glade Methodist Church with Rev. Mr. Fike, pastor of the Crellin United Brethren Church, officiating.
