The cause of his death was never definitely determined, it is believed that as an old man, he was robbed of most of his money, just prior to his death. Apparently this act was committed by unscrupulous lawhers and "dead-beats", who always were numerous in the pioneer gold-mining towns of he west. Very few facts exist about his life. Unfortunately, only a small legacy remained for distribution to his brothers and sisters who resided in Md."
