    3. Mariah J. Casteel, wife of Franklin B. Casteel, and daughter of Cornelius W. and Mary A. Savage, departed this life March 7th, 1879, aged 27 years, 7 months and 26 days. For many years she was a member of the M. E. Church, of which she lived a faithful member until death, "departing in peace". March 15, 1879 The Republican The funeral sermon of Mr. Meshack Casteel was preached in the Methodist Church, Monday at 11 a.m. by Rev. H. E. Friend, after which the remains were interred in the Casteel cemetery on the old Casteel farm. He was born in the year 1816, and was therefore 87 years old. This aged gentleman was loved and very much respected by everyone who knew him, and possessed many noble qualities. He has been a faithful member of the M. E. Church for a number of years. One son survives him. The pall bearers were, Rev. D. F. Friend, Messrs. Jeremiah and Allen Enlow, George Bishoff, A. C. DeWitt and Meshack Mattingly. Oct 15, 1903 The Republican Died-On July 15th, 1877, Roscoe Bliss, only son of Franklin B. and Maria J. Casteel, aged 1 year, 3 months and 5 days. he was an interesting child and was beloved by all who knew him. From the time he was taken ill until his death he suffered constant pain, but in all his suffering he never wept. His parents mourn the loss of their little one, but our loss is his gain. Aug 4, 1877 The Republican Death of a Good Woman Sarah Casteel, wife of Nathan Casteel, was born in Allegany County, MD, March 21st, 1819, and departed this life June 18th, 1887, age 67 years, 9 months, 3 days. She was converted and joined the M. E. Church at about the age of 17, and lived a member of the Church for 50 years. One of the marked characteristics of her nature was that whatever she undertook she threw her whole life into it, and this was especially true of her religion, and her fidelity to her Master's cause did not abate in age, an din her last illness the expressed longings of her soul were "Nearer, My God, to Thee." Nor could she be satisfied until her heart was filled with His love. Her longings were not in vain. The blessings came and she was not only enabled to rejoice, but cheerfully gave up the things she had loved and rejoiced in hope of eternal life. Her end was peace. She leaves a husband and son and many friends to mourn her loss. May they all meet again in the land of eternal joy. W.J.S. June 25, 1887 The Republican
