    3. Accident Victim Buried The funeral of Mrs. Mary E. Gonder, widow of Andrew B. Gonder, who died Saturday at the City Hospital, Frederick, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Frederick, took place Tuesday from St. Peter's Catholic Church, Oakland. She was a daughter of the late William Casteel, a Garrett County pioneer. Surviving her are four sons, Andrew, Thomas, Francis and Bernard Gonder, all business men of Oakland, and two daughters, Miss Jean Gonder and Mrs. Anna Dixon. Gonder: Excerpts: A Dodge touring car bearing Ohio markers upset on the Hagerstown Pike this morning between 8:30 and 9 o'clock and resulted in the car being badly damaged and the injuring of two passengers, who were sent to the hospital. Trueman [sic] Casteel and Mrs. Mary Glanders, of Oakland, two of the part, are at the hospital as a result of the accident. Casteel is said to be suffering from bruises about the body, while Mrs. Glanders has a fractured rib, etc. Was Mrs. Glander really Mary (Casteel) Gonder? p.a.t. News (Frederick, MD) Aug 12, 1922 Landmark Near Oakland Destroyed Oakland, MD- May 21-Fire Saturday night destroyed an old landmark, the home of Stephen Casteel, a farmer, three miles north of Oakland. The fire is thought to have originated from a lamp in a bedroom. The house built by Peter Brant, a pioneer, 75 years ago, who was know as one of the best stonebreakers on the National Highway between Baltimore and Wheeling. A great chimney, 30 feet tall, is all that remains of the old house. Mr. Casteel lost all his household effects, including a number of valuable Indian relics, from an Indian camp in the neighborhood during colonial days. Cumberland Evening Times May 21, 1923
