    1. Re: [MDGARRET] MDGARRET Digest, Vol 4, Issue 131
    2. To the question about the marker.? No it is not placed on the grave site. Because of the difference of opinions as the the year, etc. it was postponed but at the last Durst Reunion, first Sat. of August, in Salisbury, Som.Co., Pa. the group decided to fill out the, papers and have a marker placed on the site. I am in charge of the project and will be contacting the Newman Funeral Home in Garrett Co./Som.Co. to have it delivered there. It is my understanding that it needs to be delivered to a business as opposed to a personal address.? Last year I spoke to Mr. Newman and was was willing to do that for us. So now I need to contact him to sign the papers. Will be doing that this month.? Thanks for the interest, we are open to any suggestions and opinions.? I have used your information before, and I appreciate the link. Re: Durst, I've had Ross Durst papers, deeds, wills, etc.??but I've still been confused as to father of Christian "Cristly" Durst. Any thoughts on that?? Did Hans Caspar Durst's grave get a marker? It was going strong around 1989-99 and just beyond. We all sent our f amily information to one person as a clearing-house and point-person. I've tried to find something doing an Internet search but had no success. I sure would like to get this going again. We had hoped that by pooling our family information and sources we could overcome our brickwalls. Maria E. 1. [MDGARRET] Leroy Wilt (1918-1993)
    2. Walt Warnick
    3. Today's issue (Sept 1, 2009) of the Cumberland Times-News carries a long article about brushes with the law involving my G-uncle Leroy Wilt in 1942. The article is entitled "No Jail Could Hold Garrett County Man." It was written by Times-News columnist James Rada, Jr. The article goes into some detail about Leroy's arrest and escape from Allegany County authorities in January 1942, and his rearrest and escape from a Garrett County prison the next month. Over 60 years later, Leroy's scrapes with the law and his irrepressible personality remain today topics of tradition in the vicinity of Jennings and Bittinger. Today's article does fill in some details forgotten in tradition. While Rada's article is interesting and gives a glimpse of a bygone era, Rada does not offer a rationale why the article should appear in today's newspaper. I find it a curious, but not unwelcome, surprise, as it causes me to reflect back on my G-uncle Leroy. In both appearance and demeanor, Leroy bore a striking resemblance to the always cheerful, devil-may-care characters portrayed by movie actor Errol Flynn. Years after the events reported by Rada, Leroy married a stunningly beautiful local girl 17 years his junior. By all apparances and accounts, theirs was a happy union. They stayed in close contact with Leroy's numerous siblings and their families. They wouldn't dream of missing the Bittinger Picnic. Three children blessed the marriage, which lasted over 40 years until Leroy passed away 3/28/1993. His widow and children survive. Walt Warnick
